I managed to get a myself a bike in the end, so thanks for putting up with all the pre-bike questions.

Now for the new owner ones, lol.

The guy I brought it off said the petrol was a little old in the bike and said I should prob change it. I've drained it from the pipe before the carb, but do you think I need to take the carb apart etc to clean it, or shall I just put some fresh gas in???

Oh, and do I have to get bike coolant/antifreeze, or can I use the stuff for my car?

Thanks

what youve done with the fuel is fine, and yes antifreeze is antifreeze, but dont mix types, eg: do a complete drain , flush thru with water, then start again

sweet, thanks boom.

another quick one, I was told to clean the air filter with hot/warm water and clothes washing powder. Seem to get quite a bit of dirt out, let me know if I shouldn't be doing this.

Any other gas gas people on here?

I use white spirits (fuel lite), rinse with water repeat a couple of times then wash again in warm soapy water then rinse.

Just use the prestone coolant from supercheap or get some stuff off Barty.

What did you get? Post up some pics!

I use kerosene. Cheep and good for a parts cleaner afterwards. Rinse it twice let it air dry, then get a supermarket bag (stops your hands from getting crappy) Put in the filter, tip in, or spray on the oil and squeeze it in.

Never used soap and water as well, is it really necessary?

If you read the Chain gang sprocket thread and go to their site .They recommend Kero for cleaning chains as well. They also say don't oil them just before or during a ride.
20L Kero quite good price from mini tankers, fuel delivery place in Mays road Onehunga. They also have chain oil in a bottle instead of that expensive motul spray on stuff.

Flash aye with the gas gas. Good bike, bit shitty support. The place to go for parts is either from oz or bikesport in helensville. The Gas gas are really nice bikes and use some really high end gear. Apparently (I think) they use alot of parts from the jap bikes. Someone put a list up here once. Like I think that the Clutch is from a CR250.

If it hasn't been done, strip all the linkages appart and grease them up. Its good to just know that they have been done. and I'd think about doing a piston and rings to be on the safe side.

Foam oil, I got some stuff from Mt eden bikes, and its the same as the putoline stuff I had before. Its fucking awesome! Its very thin so easy to squeeze through and it goes super sticky after about 10 mins when the thinners stuff evaporates. I think its Fuchs...... I just grabbed it cause it was down the road from work and the motoul stuff is like golden syrup!!!

Petrol is meant to eat the glue in your air filter. So kero is the go apparently. I use two bags and pour some filter oil in and work it through. I then use gloves to put the filter in as oil filter oil is a wanker to get off your hands!!

Also change your filter every time you ride. It will extend your engine life.

How often should I change my filter if I'm just fanging it around a paddock? No dusty conditions..

You should do it quite often. Sand, dirt, dust, mud.... it all gets in the airbox.

If you go around for a couple of hours you should clean it.
