cowboyz right mate.
You will not regret the expenditure. I average costs out over five to ten years depending on the items. I'm still wearing my hellishly expensive Alpinestar boots that i paid $500Aus for, twelve years ago! (The new made in China Alpines arn't as good unfortunately).

Couldn't have put it better myself, I know that when I went for a slide, I was so damn happy about being able to take off all the buggered bits I laughed about it. Best damn money I ever spent.

Yep, know what you guys are saying now - when I looked at my poor scuffed up $400 flip-face helmet... I was just thinking how glad I could look at it! Just a good excuse for me to get that Caberg fighter pilot look lid now!

And... shopping around for that "leather" look in the future as well :innocent:

I bought gear for my first bike today. Bought a GN250 so don't plan on speeding but..Ended up with dririder Boots & Jackets, Orina gloves, FFM helmet and teknic pants.
Total cost was around $1000, but I got a couple bucks off due to having purchased my bike there. I considered this to be very reasonable. When I get a larger bike, or if I plan on doing some motorway / open road biking, I'll spend around the same amount again.
Note this is only because of these forums. If I hadn't lurked here, I would have spent as little as possible.

I have no problems what so ever when it comes to paying for the best saftey gear. Would rather that then eat through a straw or have stuffed limbs due to having insufficient gear on....

Here is a question for you, the Jacket I bought was a Spool size small as I am only 68kg. It feels comfy and snug, all the armour sits in the right places. The question is, if I need to I can fit thermals underneath maybe with another shirt over top. Would you say it is too small?

I tried the medium on and felt ok until I took the liner out and it was floppy as hell. I know for summer riding the liner will be removed.

The dude at the shop said most riders take their liners out because they are too hot.....

So yeah, the question was, did I buy a jacket that is slightly on the too small side of the coin???

PS First time gear buyer so have no idea how it should all fit..

Flapping gear is the pits and amazingly tiring on the open road.

I like snug fitting stuff - as long as you have free movement of arms and shoulders. I know a chick who was wrapped up like the michelan man in the cold and had a terrible accident, off the bike for nearly a year I think it was, because she limited her movement and couldn't control the bike when she got into a bit of bother.

I still have a free range of movement around the arms and shoulders... Was just a little worried that I couldn't fit anything else on if I got that cold...I'm sure with the liner in I will be warm enough..

The old maxim-if your heads worth $10 buy $10 lid.Good gear costs but when averaged out over time becomes cost friendly(thats what I told the wife).

I bought my gear on reccomendation of salesman/comfort and fit, price was part of equation, agree my jacket is a size bigger than normal, but with liner in is nice and warm, summer can be pain with heat once stopped, mind you you can then remove jacket or liner.About to add leather jacket to the kit,to go with pants.

Had same idea when playing top grade soccer buy a cheap pair of boots they crap out in a season, but buy a decent pair($280 nikes)on sale for $150 and use for games only i get maybe 3 seasons, then would use them for practice, had them for 5 years and practices were harder than games as after practice they would go into h/w cupboard to dry, cost more to replace each time but then I would buy them when on special towards season end.

You want to be able to ride in all conditions, even sub-zero, so if you can't fit clothes under your jacket... what's the point? You won't be able to ride with the jacket on when it's cold. Go back and get a size larger.

polly props. Surely a long sleeve poly and another shirt over the top with the liner should be warm enough correct? I just like the snug feeling and know nothing will be flapping around.

brrr, I dunno....
On a ride up near Taupo I was wearing three polypro tops, the liner, and a feather jacket (which compacted to zero thickness where there wasn't room, and expanded to fill all the space where there was room) and a horrible yellow raincoat over the jacket just because I was so cold.

I dunno, but the puddles were frozen solid, the inside of my tent fly was covered in ice, and the condensation of my breath had frozen on the front of my SLEEPING BAG!
Maybe minus five degC? At 100kph that's minus 32degC.
