Ok im trying to track down some mesh to make a radiator guard for the SV, went to the Repco down the road and looked around, couldnt find it and then when I asked they gave me, the look, you know the look, the one that says your a dipshit and ive never heard about what youve just discribed to me.

So whats the deal where do I get this Radiator Mesh stuff from?

Try SupercheapAuto, I bought a sheet of black aluminium expanded mesh from them for about $30 around 2 years ago. There was enough to make around 3 radiator guards. Repco did have it then, but it was almost twice the price.

Ditto here. My local Supercheap had the mesh in black, silver and gold. Cheap as chips and worked a treat........doesn't look half bad either.

Super cheap it is then, sound like its my sort of price as well, I have been looking around at what some the guys from Ausie, the Uk and US charge for pre made guards and it is just stupid

Hi Pumba, Try your local security door people. They generally have alot of different mesh sizes in all sorts of materials. Most of the time they can cut a piece to size for you.
I use the coated stainless steel type. Really strong, (to keep out burglars etc, so it doesn't need a frame or bracing.

Aluminum expander mesh... repco have it, in the boy racer section.

When you do the SV, make it about 2mm too wide to fit between the tanks. That'll make it bow out slightly, which will keep it off the fins (at least, that's what I did and it works great). I also just used cable ties looped through the fins to secure it. Invisible and can't fall off.

Ditto on me Triumph. Repco's stuff, cable-tied.

Ooops, forgot to mention I spray bombed mine black, to match the radiator and the bike, which is why the black cable ties are invisible. Didn't do anything with the oil cooler, although I'm considering filling the bottom half of the lower fairing inlet with a bit of mesh, like my ZX6R had from the factory.

I just bought the black one and some black cable ties... y'know. Seemed the easier thing to do... :dodge:

Right shot to supercheap on the weekend and found some of the protector stuff, about $20-$30 or something like that, already painted black so I didnt have a chance to show off my skills with the spray can.

As I dont own a ditgital camera I cant post pics but Ill describe what I did.

First I removed the silver guards on the side of the SV's Radiator, and gave them a good clean while they were off.

Cut the mesh to approx size leaving enouhgh to bend around the ends of the radiator.

Bent one end at 90 degrees and used the bolts that held the silvers guards on to hold in place.

Bent the other end as was required.

Trimed up the gurad to size, just to make it look not to much like a hack job.

And then put the guard in place bolting the silver side plates over top of the guard, this part required some gentle pressure.

And hey presto Guard made.

Thanks for everyones advice.
