Certainly not supper pleasant weather that's for sure. I didn't have any problems getting home earlier but it got a whole lot worse just after I got home.

just went out to check on the wife of one of my mates who's in the fire brigade,
and 2 tornados went through about 3 km below our house and power poles just all pushed over down the rd and it just missed our run off out of kaponga but hit our friends who are winter milking and most of their power poles knocked over lost a big pine plantation and general stuff everywhere.
not sure if their cow shed ok but he wont be milking in his shed in the morning.

Bloody hell - so this is what I'll be coming back to mid August after 15 years away.

Who's been mucking around with the weather then . . .? Used to be wet and windy in winter, not apocalyptic.

Plenty of the feckers from late arvo through the night, hitting Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford, Normanby, Hawera, Rahotu and Opunake. Oakura is the worst, hit by 3 with about 50 houses damaged..

Still cloudy and darkening as we speak... another day of who knows what?

From a victim of the tornado......

"I was having a ciggie and a beer in the garage. When it hit it was like a freight train coming through. We've got a good view of the mountain now!"
