Hi Folks, just want some help in wiring up a radar detector. Have just purchased a Escort X 50, only power sorce cable they sent was a standard coiled smartcord, has cigarete plug on one end and telephone type plug on other which goes into the radar. Anyone with any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.:blank::scratch:
cheers

Use a telephone cord. The middle two terminals are the ones you are needing. Just make sure you have the polarity sussed before you plug it in. Can't recall which is which, but if you plug the smart cord thingy into a car socket, use a test light from car earth to either of the middle terminals to check which one is live.
Once you have done that, splice the positive feed wire into something that is live only when the key is on, put a fuse in line, and terminate the negative wire to the frame.
And Yes, the phone cord is heavy enough to handle the load.

I wired a car/quad cig lighter plug (ya can get them easily for a Auto Electric Shop) just below the blade on "Roxanne". Works sweet as I can see the alarm light on the Excort's plug.

just remove the cigarete plug, the wire conected to the senter is + and go to your battery, the one in the side is- and go to the byke chassis or negative, you gonna find a fuse inside the plug, just replase all for a in line fuse if you need .
