View Full Version : Auckland: Coro-Loop "4 the thrill of the ride"

Cr1MiNaL
6th July 2007, 20:18
When: Sunday 8th July (meet 9am for a 9.30 am departure).
Where: Papakura BP
Why: Because I haven't had a descent ride in 3 weeks.

Hey guys the weather looks good for Sunday in Auckland and in Hamilton, so a mate n myself are planning on riding the loop. The ride will be medium paced and suitable for 250's as well, as long as u can ride at open road speeds.

We will be taking a short detour to rendezvous with the Hamilton Crew and will proceed to the loop from there.

All are welcome.

Feel free to sign up so that we have an Idea of numbers attending.

Cheers,
Raj et al.

Pls note people, as per a few concerned pms: this is not a "display ur skills" ride. If u want to hoon pls gather up ur own party n leave earlier. There are no prizes for who can finish the loop and back in the shortest possible time. Some of us are on our last demerits and cannot afford to loose our lisences. Hence, if u wish to hoon pls do it elsewhere. The ride is scenic and I plan on enjoying the view and scenery along the way n taking a few pictures every now n then, hence I say this is not a fast paced ride, its more to enjoy the ride n the scenery along the way. If u put anyone in any danger at any time u will be asked to leave the group. Pls have respect for ur fellow riders.
The coro loop is treacherous and I hav been tipped off that there is clay n debris on the road sides, so hoon at ur own risk. Cheers.

As im somebody who used to live in the coromandel i will let u all no this.... the Thames coast road is Always dodgy after it has rained, there is Always gravel on the very inside of the road (especially on the hills) so for all the people whom are going up there tomorrow, just keep a steady eye on the surface as it can dramaticaly change after weather like this

Aha I'm back "in record time" first of the lot !! nah actually colin was kind enuf to flick a stone at my radiator just as we reached kopu, so it had a trickle leak. My newest friend promptly removed a pair of plyers n clamped the leak, Im buyin u a beer next ATNR ! I proceded home after that (alone :() As i reached Albany I stopped the bike n checked it over. The amazing thing had stopped leaking. (gotta love bikes when they fix themselves) and was cooling down properly when idled etc.. consulted FireFight since hes been riding R6's since I was 2 :)

The Weather was so freekin good/dry/sunny that after eating a burger at BK I had to ride n even more so since my bike appeared to be okay. Well I did the riverhead road then proceeded on to Welsford and rode that too..........twice  Met a few bikers at the scenic lookout and even got my knee down !! :dodge: ... pictures shortly.

I'm exhausted now  Hope u all had a good ride, and had an uneventful day, personally the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

Im happy I didn't do the coro loop today, I had a bad feeling about it when i started today morning. I took the radiator thing as a sign, and proceeded for a ride in less treacherous conditions.

O n next time Colin, u ride behind me :innocent:

Leong
8th July 2007, 17:39
Glad you got home OK Raj, and looks like you're OK to commute tomorrow too, though you'd better get it fixed properly before the next out of town ride.

Good weather today, roads mostly damp on the loop, but some fun to be had. Spent the day with Duckaddict, Puddy (love that K7) and OzRobbo - good to meet ya (Mate). Hope you got home OK Breakaway. And the burgers at Coroglen were as good as we remembered. Did the loop anticlockwise and the road on the Thames coast wasn't too bad, but lots of traffic though. Lots of bikes out today - lots went past when we were stopped at the Kopu Tavern.

Interesting coming back thru Monument Road. Another group caught us up leading into the windy bit so they must have been going at reasonable pace. Saw the motard and an R6 in my mirror but we were in the windy stuff, so I thought it'd be difficult for them to pass anyway, so I went for it. After the twisties I looked back and they were quite a wee way behind!!! Think that might qualify as giving them the learn??? :first: That'd be a first!! I slowed and pulled over a bit on the straight to wait for the others and the motard and R6 both wheelied past!! :Punk: I think they enjoyed it too!!

Yea bummer, but at least it fixed itself ? or so it would seem. Next monday when im not working ill take it in to Yamaha, n get them to look at it. Perhaps spot weld it even, or whatever u do with radiators. Get them to give it the final check and pass it "long ride" worthy. Atleast i can ride to work tomoro n for the week, wuda been gutted without that. Need a radiator guard for sure. If anyone knows any good ones pls pm me. Hope its not too expensive to repair for sure, im too poor for these things :(

Pm me ur addy ill save it in my phone, n next time I do the route ill call n perhaps come over even, u guys r gr8 company.

Bugger to hear about the stone, but that's the nature of biking I guess :sweatdrop Good to hear you're going to get it sorted ASAP!

And knee down phwoar! I think I'll have to get my pocket bike out and learn to do that too! (with sliders..and leathers methinks! :innocent:)

Hey thanks guys ! One of the many reasons I like biking with other bikers is just this... the feeling that u r not alone.

Ps: Ill have u know getin ur knee down on that (07 race R1 pocket bike) is not so easy. sitting on it alone is an accomplishment :) it corners hard... Im thinkin I shuda brought that to the Coro instead of my R6 ?

Go to repco and buy some "boy racer mesh" shit and make up a radiator guard. About 25 bucks should buy enough to fashion a gaurd for a few bikes and just zip tie it on....... or ask that grumpy old scot with the r6 what he did for his
