Just got my nolan n102. do any nolan owners use the nfrs system it comes with?
is it worth the effort to fit it or is it a gimmick?
also im interested in fitting the intercom system(n-com) any thoughts?
thanks

if, by nfrs system, you mean the anti fog pinlock thingamajiggywotsit, then YES, PUT IT IN NOW!!! it is spectacular, you will never have a fogged up visor again, ever

was thinking of getting the basic kit for mine so i could run mp3s into it etc but they are actually quite a noisy helmet so i dont know how well it would work
motomail has all the various kits (motomail.co.nz) if you wanna have a nosey

even though it doesnt work as well as other people seems to say it does, its better than nothing

sometimes im as thick as 2 short planks, had a look at nolans site , do you need to buy the basic kit PLUS the intercom kit for both rider and pillion?

Anti fog thingi is great.
Just remember to remove it from time to time and clean, as there can be moisture/muck build up over time between the antifog and the visor. (so I'm told)

yeah what he said - i havent cleaned it myself but i'd say the dirtier it is the less effective it is...

Second that on the antifog. It is excellent.

WRT the intercom whatsit - the only complaint I've heard about it is that it runs as a mono system, NOT a stereo system. so if you use it play music, you only get the mono effect.

The anti-fog system thingy is a great invention. Damn near impossible to fog up. Just take your time with taking the visor off and note how everything fits in and re-assemble. It will be worth it. It's NOT JUST A GIMMICK.

The little booklet that comes with your Nolan helmet explains how to remove visor correctly. That is if u still have it.

hmm didn't realise that. Make the Fog City insert a little better as it seals and as long as it was clean to start with nothing should get inbetween the visor and the fog thingy.

It seems that some extol the virtues of antifog systems while others are modestly ho hum about them. Me I just crack open the visor a few mills works well enough.

Yes but on a wet day how do you stop the water dribbling down INSIDE your visor?

I have had my N102 for almost a year now, and yes water does get in between the 2 visors :(

I have found that during heavy rain whilst riding that it leaks a little from the top (and I mean just few drops every few minutes), but this does not appear to get in between both visors, so what causes water to get in between both visors?:shit:

I have figured out not to have the flip lid up during rain , that's how water gets in between.
It is bad too, it looks like you are looking into to a fish tank, and if if gets cold it fogs up and is really annoying.

I actually took it out on the last adventure assault trip, and rode with the visor open one notch :(

Also after a while the anti fog visor becomes loose and starts to rub on the other main visor, to stop this happening simply do what I did and that is to turn it around, it comes flat and soon develops the shape of the main visor, so turn it around and it is like new

Cheers Scott

Another tip, make sure you do it somewhere clean
If dust and fingerprints gets in between the visors you will notice it

So try and keep ya mits off and clean, the last thing you want to do is have to take it out again to clean it :(

Also when they are new, I thought I was going to break the main visor by bending it to fit the anti fog visor in, but it wont break!! Believe me, I was crapping that I would end up with a broken visor, but it worked out ok

Also another hint for those with the Nolan N102, I would suggest that every so often that you take the sun visor off, by sliding the clips down and removing it, the reason for this is those clips get pretty full of dust and crap and van be impossible to get off if you dont take it off every so often

Cheers Scott

I rode from Wellington to Manakau in some seriously pissing rain and got no water in the visor(s) (or anywhere in the helmet) at all, that was with the sun visor attached but up and the anti fog layer installed, i usually open the main visor a crack every now and then (i just like a bit of fresh air) but not for long......check your seals maybe?

Mine used to be good, but because I have used it for a year now and over 20000+km, and a lot on rough gravel roads, the main visor is slowly losing its shape, so doesn't quite fir the seal at the top like it used to.
It only leaks a weeeee bit, so no drama

I live with that as dribbles are less of a hassle than the whole thing fogging up. A few dribbles is a whole lot better than the open face I usually wear. Though on the new bike I don't find the same problem anymore as the huge screen up front creates a nice pocket for free air in anything except really heavy rain.

It is still a bloody brilliant helmet!!!

It is as comfortable now as is was new!
I would hate to count the number of times I have opened and closed the flip up , but the catch is still good

Cant go wrong with these helmets

Sure it was a lot of money, but now it has been a good investment, and I want to see how long and how many Kms of punishment it can handle

Nasty and I have gone one different. We bought the Bluetooth kit which allows bike-to-bike intercom up to about 10 car lengths. The Basic Kit gives you the microphone, speakers, cellphone 2.5mm jack plug and MP3/radio/any audio device 3.5mm jack plug.

The Bluetooth allows us to do hands-free phone calling as well as the bike-bike stuff. Quality is brilliant.

Re the pin-lock anti-fog ... it WORKS!

Did you know that your helmet is made for bikes that ride on the RH side of the road? :gob:

That's right your visor is completely different to mine

Now I am thick when it comes to Bluetooth

Does it still cost you when you use your bluetooth phones to communicate to one another using your helmets? Or is it just like a wireless radio?

And does your cell phone need to have coverage?

Cheers

Nope it doesn't cost anything bike to bike. Bluetooth is just really wireless comms with a limited range. Originally for use to talk to your cell phone while drivng, Nolan designed the bluetooth system for pillion intercom. Some bright spark discovered that it works bike-bike too.

You'll notice that Nolan themselves are very cagey about advertising the bike-bike factor because they'd get grief from people who expected it to work a kilometer away. The 10 car lengths we get is in clear road between us. Past that and you're not riding together anyway. A few cars/trucks in between will cause it to break up a little but the clarity never diminishes. We've never had cause to complain.

I just wish that Scott & Carissa had installed the kits before their round NZ ride, the experience of riding and sharing what you see and experience is something you can't do without once you've had it.

i took the plunge and fitted the anti fog system, at first the job seemed daunting but turned out easy. i nearly died breathing into the visor trying to maske it fog up!. so early indications are that it will work as stated.

As I said earlier I have had no probs with the visor. I have not found the helmet leaks in the rain at all. I did find that when I fitted the visor that the seal at the top of the opening in the helmet was a lot tighter when the anti-fog shield was fitted. Due to that little bit of extra thickness - the seal rubbed a lot closer to the visor and there was a lot more friction. This made moving it from full open to close a bit more difficult to start with. I am hoping it will loosen a bit as it get more use. I used it for a while without the anti-fog after I first got the helmet. Still a great helmet though.
