The number plate is "25YKZ".
The bike was parked in the work carpark (for visitors... but still) and another bike was parked right next to mine (A gixxer thou) and they stole the ZXR... It had the steering lock on, but that was it.
I'm going after 9am to ask the other floors and surrounding buildings if they saw anything... someone must have noticed my bike being loaded onto a truck/trailer because I seriously doubt they rode it away...
Crashe: Sorry about not replying, havn't had much credit of late... don't have a bike now so don't really need the pink bits at the mo... but thanks...

Bummer :(
Unfortunatety its all too easy to break a steering lock and bypass the switch
Or for two scum to pick it up and stuff it into a van (usually white) and even a disklock wont stop that.
Is there a security camera on the carpark?
My condolences anyway

Well... I printed out some "stolen" flyers this morning and handed them out to the surrounding buildings and other companies within our building...
A lady has come forward and given a detailed description of the fucker that stole the bike, its amazing how much people notice sometimes... the cops now have the updated information and are onto it, they have a good description of the wank stain along with a good description of his vehicle.
Fingers crossed its a good enough description to catch the bastard...

Great ... how about you share the description on here as there are likely to be more motivated KBers looking for it than there will be police.
Am also interested, since lady saw the whole thing, on how he managed to steal it. This knowledge may just help us protect our bikes from theft in the furture (i.e did he bust the steering lock and ride it away or load it in a van with a helper)

I'm not really too comfy giving too many details... not trying to offend anyone... but it could be anyone...
The circumstances with which the bike was stolen shows that either (a) this wankstain has been watching the bike for a number of days or (b) knows my routine.
The lady who saw the bike being stolen didn't realise it was being stolen, the only thing that caught her attention to the bike at all was that the guy rode (yes rode... so he got the steering lock off somehow and started it somehow) into the back of a van/truck. She only took notice because he didn't have a helmet on and thought it was strange that someone would ride without a helmet, and exspecially on a day like yesterday, once she saw him putting it in the van she watched him until he left, but didn't think anything of it.
Another thing that makes me think it was targeted is that there was a gixxer1000 parked infront of my bike (which didn't have its steering lock on), it would have been faster and easier to steal the gixxer... and they didn't... which leads me to believe its someone who knows or knows of me...
*is not feeling very trusting right now*
As for the description of the guy, hes a white guy in his 30's with short dark hair, and he was wearing a white/light t-shirt and blue jeans... so like I said, could be anyone. I have left out a few details so that if the fucker is on kb he can start shitting himself... the business next door have said they will check thier cameras for the vehicle as he used a back alley/road to get back onto the main road... chances are they got his vehicle plate... the cops are onto that too...
but I'm still not feeling too happy about it... I don't think I'll be seeing my bike again :bye:

yeah well things were only just getting back on an even keel... but now that I'm transportless, its back to less hours (due to the longer travelling time becuase I have to catch the bus again) and catching the bus means less money, so I'm now offically back in the shit
my insurance co won't do anything for 21 days incase the bike shows up... and even then once I get my pay-out, after the excess its not gonna be enough to replace the zxr, which means at least a few months until I ca save up the extra for another bike...
I've had such a shit run of luck these last few months, I'm so over the crap

The Insurance should still get the ball rolling so that by 21 days they can make you an offer plus where does it say they wait 21 days in the policy............worth checking because I think you will find it says nothing about that?
Where do you work and what times do you work. Maybe someone can help with lifts? If you live close to me I may be able to help but depends on your hours.......I work in Ponsonby 7 - 4 Mon to Wed and 9 - 4 the other days.

Another possibility is that the average scum is more likely to have access to a ZXR250 than a GSX-R1000. If he serviced his own bike he would know exactly what wires to join and how to get to them.

I'm no expert on it but IMHO I'm almost certain that it was specifically targetted. ie someone wanted THAT bike or at least that model and given the cost of spares and 250's it's small wonder...

I was referring to the general increase over the holidays. The cops must hate school holiday time!

13th July 2007, 10:43
Yeah I reckon it was targeted... the ZXR does have a list of aftermarket parts, and without any decals on it, its often confused with a 600 (yeah in my dreams)...
But yeah.... parts are:
Full aftermarket header and pipe system (sounds like a little beast not a rangi 250)
Pearl white braided brake lines
Quarter turn throttle
Rev limiter (red rev - banned in Japan, so not many of them around... and even less on 250's)
Oil overflow pipe (comes out of the oil top up screw thingy)
Other details of the bike are:
Black paint job... home done... so when you look closely you can see the decals under the paint (yeah I did a real rangi job on it)
Blue tinted screen with cracks in it
Blue and gold anodised fairing bolts/screws
Purple handlegrips
Anodised blue bolts in the fuel cap
the left foot mount bracket has about 6 washers between it and the bike
The speedo shows the first digit as half 4 and half 5 (which I assume is because when I brought it after market the guy I brought it from had turned the clock back)
it has after market oxford black indicators on the front and standard ones at the back
the front fairing is fibreglass and is damaged
The right side fairing is cracked in 2 places
I'd know it anywhere... I know every damn scratch and crack on the bike... I'm in the process of sending flyers to every bike shop and wreckers with a detailed list of the parts incase someone tries to sell them...
Other than that I dunno what else I can do...
edit: the headlight was damaged too... fromt he inside of the fairing you can see the home repair job... it really stands out...

The thing that stuck out in my mind, yesterday afternoon, was the colour of the screen and the grips!
Surely if some filthy scum is riding it, that person would change the grips. If you see a bike that matches the description - look for new grips on it!
All those extra details will help with a good identification.
I hope it and particularly the lowlife who nicked it:bash:, are found.

They'd have to change the blade and screws also as they make it pretty distinctive. I guess it could even be in Welly by now, I'd definitely know it instantly if I came across it - will be scanning the parks.

The police are going to finger print it today or tomorrow (they're gonna let me know) and then I can organise to have the bike taken to a bike shop for an appraisal...
I was thinking of taking it Spectrum... does anyone have any suggestions?

If by any chance it's a write-off, take it to Red Baron for a valuation. '92 ZXR-250 - they'd probably want 8 grand for it. But Spectrum seem like a good bunch, and if Robert Taylor trusts 'em to do suspension work, they can probably be trusted to fix up your pride and joy.
Here's hoping the cops match the fingerprints.

I'd think a few of us would have left finger marks on your bike from the last track day with loading/unloading it on the trailer. Hopefully they don't cause much confusion in the hunt for the culprit.
Nice to hear something good has happened - and that you're pretty baby hasn't been broken up for parts.

Yeah, take it there. Spectrum do a lot of insurance assessments.

They seem good people in there and I've only heard good about them, but not had personal dealings with them apart from checking out bikes and gear from time to time. If my experience is anything to go by, they treat (potential) customers well.

Thanks all...
I don't think the fingerprint thing will be an issue... its been cleaned twice since the trackday and its rained shitloads since then too... so the only prints on it should in theory be mine, sams and the thiefs...
In regards to the red baron suggestion... um... nuh... they ripped me off last time so they can get screwed...
I spoke to the insurance co and they said they will organise the towing of the bike from the tow yard to where they decide they want it appraised... it seems I have no chocie in this matter... oh well

No I'm with NAC...
Anywho... the police are starting to piss me off something cronic..
When the bike was originally stolen an eye witness came forward (due to the flyers I gave out) and I gave the cops her name and number and the description she gave me... they never called her to ask her anything (obviously the cops would know better questions and techniques than myself, and they might have gotten something from her that I didn't even think to ask about)... but nope... they never called her...
Again today a lady on the 4th floor came and gave me the name and number of a visitor of theres who had dropped his wife off for an appointment, and he sat in his car one car park away from where my bike was, and he saw the guy stealing the bike, he said he didn't think anything of it because the guy nodded and smiled at him... he watched the guy, and was much closer then the lady who came forward first... I called the cops today to give them his name and number and the lady pretty much said along these lines "oh... can you call him and get the details and call us back and tell us" my response "isn't that your job?" and her response "if you don't want to talk to him call him and ask him to call us then".
Ok fine they've found my bike (by pure chance... not because they were actually even fucking trying). But that aside, the guy is still out there, they have 2 witnesses (not including the person who reported him running through thier garden after he binned my bike), and they have made no effort to get a statement from either of these witnesses... one may have more detail then the other or more information... but they don't give a rats ass.
They could be out there trying to stop him from stealing someone elses bike...
Stealing bikes seems like a great business to get into.. after all its not like the cops give a shit
*is pissed off big time*

Should have said the thief was breaking the speed limit as he ran away - they would have been all over him...
This matches my experience with car thefts. Breaking in daylight on Tamaki Drive, the cop at Central was quite honest that they wouldn't be doing anything and the piece of paper was only for the insurance company. $800 of stuff stolen. Second time, at home wheile we were there, $12000 stuff stolen from van. Cops weren't interested at all, in the end I took it to the Mt Wellington cop shop to report it, ran into a cop I vaguley knew, who knew the fingerprint man and convinced him to at least pretend to take prints. No luck there either.
The cops don't investigate car or bike thefts, end of story. They only way the cops will catch your thief is if he discovers God and confesses in a fit of religious fervor. Even then I would give it a 50/50 chance of anything happening. Wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

That is just pure laziness... ring and speak to the officer in charge (Senior Sergeant or Sergeant at the very least) and repeat the above to him/her...

He probably was speeding in the first place, which is why they noticed him?
In Auckland, the best way to get something done about car breakins is to take it to the cop shop for printing etc. Plain and simple people, there are not enough Police to do the job. A two man car in that area will be expected to attend any job occurring right now and simply can not ignore someone getting the bash to attend historic theft.
Get an alarm and don't leave valuables in your car...
If there are no prints, no witnesses... just what do you expect Police to do?

Even if it's a total writeoff there might still be enough parts worth keeping if you're planning to get another ZXR PF. Spare engine, rear brake/gear levers, clipons, disks, cables, etc perhaps?

Well... I have to wait until next week to see what the insurance co is willing to sell the bike back to me for, I'm also hoping to get a ride out to where they are now storing the bike to see the damage for myself, apparantly its 90% front end damage, the insurance lady said it looks like he hit something from the front.... but she did say she knew nothing about bikes, so I'm not staking too much on what shes said...
I should be able to see it tomorrow or Wednesday if one of Sam's mates can give us a ride to Penrose and back... we'll see...
I was thinking about fixing the bike back up, but last time it was written off (2005) it took me 10 months and over $3000 to repair just cosmestic damage, and the damage sounds worse this time around, so I'm holding my decision on fixing it until I've seen the bike personally...
If the buy back price isn't too high then I might buy it back and sell the parts. I have no intention at all of fixing the bike to ride myself, and no intention of fixing it for Sam either.
I wanna either fix it or strip it for financial reasons only... without being able to sell the repaired bike, or parts of the bike I'm going to be bikeless for at least another 3 months, without the bike/parts to make some extra $$ I'm gonna be bikeless for a LOT longer... it sucks... if I get it back and can make some money off it then I'm hoping to have my 600 by in about a month or two...
No point in test riding any bikes now...
... we'll see...

Looking at the damage there really isn't much point in trying to fix it, it would be cheaper to buy a new bike... however jsut waiting to hear back for some advice on whats salvagable (sp) to see if it would be worth buying it back anyway and selling the parts... Fucking insurance company is trying to screw me over... they are only offering me just over half the value or the bike, less my excess and I'll only be walkign away with about $2000.
they used a car assessor to assess the bike and when the guy called me to ask some questions about the bike he started the conversation with "I'm a car assessor but today... I'm a bike assesor"
I'm so fucked off, when I got home last night and read the letter fro the insurance co I wanted to kill someone, I feel so fucking helpless... this is abosolute bullshit.

you can ask for another assement to take place, and the insurance company should pay for it too.
three quotes is better than one.
dnt let them screw you over, and dont take what they first offer you, sounds way too cheap.
but the more quotes the better.

You should be getting $4.5k minus excess at least I would have thought. Try finding a ZXR250c for less than that in Auckland! I'm sure you could get some market value figures from various bike shops (Colemans/Mt Eden/Red Baron) that would back you up.

$5000-4500, less say $500-1000 because it's not original (I'd lean towards $500 given the 250 market), less your excess :(

Unsure what has she got to do with any of it? Tell the sarcastic hoe to get f*cked.
The 250cc bike market took off when petrol prices took off, sold both of ours for a lot more than we paid... Definitely get prices from Bike Shops and Tardme for the assessor to compare, and check out www.Bikepoint.co.nz on the internet, there will be bikes for sale there compare. Show him the picture on your profile (or was it the pikky earlier in this thread) to show him the condition.....

Wow - sorry to read this whole saga PF...I feel some small fraction of your pain as I just got my ride back about 3 weeks ago after a long, long wait (parts delays and associated fiascos)
I'd still be giving that insurance company the flick after what they initially tried to pull - rude and unduly nasty at a stressful time.
I have been going through a L E N G T H Y insurance saga myself associated mith my minor off. Sadly, it's through no fault of my own or Star insurance (who have been great - covered me even though I'd been poor and struggling with my premiums at the time and their computer initially said my policy was cancelled...)
Unfortunately until it is sorted I'm down $500 excess and have a steep, steep hike in insurance premium (will be refunded or adjusted in any new policy when sorted) - farker is that it is the other party (who reversed in front of me) and their insurance company that are making me suffer by digging their heels in - will be directly ringing up the insurance collection unit soon to chase it up.
Good luck hunting for a new bike :) You sound due a lucky break...:sunny:
