Cliffhanger Promotions are holding two sprint meetings later this year.

Previous sprints have been very successful and we want to continue in the same vein.

This is a great opportunity to test both yourself and your machine in standing and flying 1/4 mile sprints.

I have attached the flyer for your info.

Once again we will need assistants to help with marshalling, time keeping and recording, and sausage sizzlers(I heard a rumour Colapop has offered to help sizzle sausages)

Please contact me if you are able to assist, even if only for half a day.

It certainly saves a bit of time at sign in., so yes.

If the event is called off for whatever reason, the entry fee will likely be rolled over till the November event, or at least partly refunded. (80 or 90%) - a minimal amount would likely be retained to cover costs. (Permits, paramedics, public notices etc)

What's the best way of procuring one?
Also, are full leathers necessary ?

We have about 6 back protectors for hire on the day, but you will need to confimr your entry beforehand if you wish to reserve one. (or you could borrow one from a friendly KBer ?)

Jackets must be leather or kevlar.

Trousers must be leather, nylon motorcross, or heavy worsted.

I would never say to use Motorcross pants on the road!!!
All they will do is melt to the leg!
Seen it myself.

If you dont have the proper road riding gear.... DONT ENTER!
Its not just a cruize on a country road. This is serious stuff that can really hurt you. Why would you the the chance?
My two cents anyway.

I have leather bike trousers but my Jacket is a normal touring one with plastic padding.
I think I can find a leather jacket though.

We run these events according to MNZ rules Martin. If we fail to do so we are not insured under MNZ imdemnity (is that the right word ?)

I have copied the relevant safety gear requirements practically ver batim from MNZ website

If its a motorbike riding jacket, you should be ok. Are you confident that it will protect you in a crash?

Now that is contradictory Martin - it's not up to the rider to determine the safety quality of his gear. Some supposed 'motorcycle' jackets may be made of inferior materials to kevlar and leather.

But don't take my word for it - check the rule yourself - http://www.motorcyclingnz.co.nz/download/Chapter_8_Safety_Gear.pdf

Looking forward to it Deano

Want to see what the 750 will do. :D

I've spoken to my mate and will work on getting the computer timing program sorted for September.

To give all of you an idea of what I hope to have.

The program will record all your times at any event you turn up to. You will have a number and that will be yours for any event. This will save time with signing in and you can then have your no. ready before you arrive. It will hold all your info too again I'm trying to do everything to make things as quick and simple as poss. at each event

It will be able to give you a report on any event you've been to and with all information on times, speeds, runs etc.

If anyone wants to put any ideas forward to me of what you think should be included then please pm me.

Thanks to Deano and the team for organizing this event for us all again.

I may be available to help with the sizzle or marshalling etc.
Currently planning to attend as hopefully, Plugz 4 Lugz are going to be there so I can get a pair of ear plugs made.
Also just want to hang with like minded people for the day and watch the fun.

Don't think the bike (or the body) is up to joining in.

SO what happens if you go too fast? Will your eyes fall out? is it possible to breathe at high speeds?
But seriously now, what will happen to my bike?
Bad things?
I know some bikes suffer from 'valve bounce' but I suppose on modern-ish bikes the revs have a limiter to stop getting to that point.

For Masterton Sunday: Brief afternoon rain. Strong northwesterly.

Anyone know what the story is with back protectors? I have some thin armour in my leathers but it more resembles a piece of cardboard than anything that would prevent my back from snapping. Likewise I was loaned one by my neighbour, but that more resembles a really thick piece of cardboard - like, DVD case thickness.

Would that be OK? Is there likely to be a surplus of such things? Clearly I'm not planning on falling off anyway :)

Your not kidding... At the Haywards turn off it was raining so damn hard I was seriously considering building an ark... Hels rocks up beside me an being an incurable optomist says 'yeah but it's not windy aye!' 2 seconds later hurricane bella descends on us.. argh! NEVER mock the weather gods...

I hope the rain held off until you welly types got home.
A big fat "nope" I'm afraid. It started drizzling as we got towards the takas, was raining properly by the time I started tip-toe'ing down (wuss in the wet), and absolutely pissed it down for the m'way up till just past Petone. I had the pleasure of tipping water out of my gloves at the traffic lights and arrived home with a significant "wet rat" air about me.

A bath and gin&tonic or two later and the world looks just peachy again :)

Heh. The first time she left from the "top" for a flying quarter it became apparent that taking it easy on the ol'FZR was not on today's agenda. Nice!

I think it can be counted as a moral 200k. And it sounded beautiful. Some lucky camper somewhere is going to pick up a bargain of a 400.

I dunno - Your bike sounded kinda hot as well you know...

Speaking of noise...That chap with the Sreaming Eagle V Rod (apart from being an utter knob and doing a barely controlled burnout in front of the hall in the midst of pedestrians etc and causing the Clerk of the Corse to get pretty grumpy) ..... FARK that thing was mind numbingly LOUD...... And that was just in the looks department - it was positively deafening when the engine was running... You didn't so much hear it and feel it liquifing your insides...

I suppose while we may not all 'like' HD's etc - good on those of them that turned up and had a go. That HD night Train did an early run and sounded awesome .... The high level of HD participation was to be applauded really...

Anyway - the gauntlets been laid out to the classic club lads as well.. Novembers club ride will be to the sprints and i hope to encourage some of em to have a go.. Hmm I wonder how fast a BSA B31 goes????? (not very I suspect)

That's why. We are lucky the locals are gracious enough to put up with us. Obnoxiously loud exhausts is pushing our luck a little too far.

A big thanks to all the competitors for entering, and marshals, helpers and everyone who assisted on the day.

It was great to see the Central Districts guys there - they really packed out the numbers and gave Drew something to focus on while announcing.

We do need more helpers for November as we would like to have a person stationed at every driveway on Dalefield Road.

To anyone who didn't go because the weather looked iffy - the Sunny Wairarapa has a habit of coming through for us - don't go by the weather on the West side of the hills !!

Also if you can sort out a printer and blank A5 cards for the certificates I can start them printing before everyone's back from their last run!!!! Just need to sort out if the secretary's signature is hand done or do they have a stamp?

Have also set it up so if you sit MC Drew next to where we do the timing he won't have to keep flicking through all the signing in sheets to find the details of who's coming down as it'll all be on my screen as soon as they tell us the number of the bike. This will give him more time to use that wit of his. (not so sure that's a good thing but hey I'm just trying to make lives easier)

All the reports have been fixed up as well so hopefully things will be allot quicker and easier for you this time matey.

What a stunnning day! ... mate it was hot! Bloody good show to the marshals I reckon. I was a bit too crook to help today but I know that its tiring work out there, and would have been super taxing today in the heat.

A master-stroke getting those chicks on the BBQ. Everyone was repeatedly propositioned with sausages (not capital 'S' Jim2), and they sold out of the cliffhanger DVDs apparently. Theres no porn on those disks boys, the girls were only joking ;)

Good on ya once again Cliffhanger team and Deano :niceone:.

..Absolutely awesome day. Lot of nice bikes to drool over. And some very talented riders...

Up close and personal (from a marshall's) point of view (and being a newbie to bikes). To just how fast some bikes can really go. Credit to all the riders for staying upright......

Got a few short little clips as the bikes were breaking sound barrier past me. Will edit them together and post em up shortly...Thats if there is anything to see, shutter speed might not go that fast..

Thanks once again to the organisers, and to the crew that made a newbie feel welcome before things got started ( Trying to hide from the sun, in the shadow of the pole ---- :)

ps ( Thanks Kyle for the ride and shadow for my first time over the hill...Muchly appreciated )

So, since marshalling in my case involved standing at the end of a thing that nobody was going to come out of and making sure that nobody came out of it, I thought I would try my hand at taking pictures of my fellow nutcases at speed.

But there's a problem, right? A bike at 250km/hr travels approximately bugger all distance over 1/1000th of a second and therefore looks, in photographs, like you're pootling around the rapa on a sunny afternoon on a ride with your mother in law. Hardly the look we're after. So I had a go at dropping the shutter speed down as low as it would go without overexposing chronically (F8 and 1/250th was as much as I could get) and then firing off a burst of shots as the bikes come past - because by the time you make the decision to press the button, it's a good hundred metres further down the road.

The results were ........ crap. For the most part they look like blurry pictures of pootling round the rapa. However, some experiments with widening the arc on the shot helped a bit and gave rise to the two pictures attached. PM me if you want high res's. I've got a couple of video clips I'll youtube up and post on the thread too.

Oh well, was worth a go.

Hey Dave,

thanks to you and all the other marshals that and helpers that helped out today - it sure was blardy hot.

Jim2, Ranty Dave,The Yoshie, DingoZ (sorry did we get to meet at all ), the young fella on the RG (bit worried the locals had abducted you for a while - key duelling bajo's), Lissa with signing in and sizzling sausages on the BBQ with Flame, Str8 Jacket and special guest Marco Melandri.......Oh hang on, that was Vaseline Warrior.

Limbimtimwim and I absolutely cooked at the top, but it sure sounded great...music even.

The results will be posted on www.cliffhanger.org.nz over the next few days but unless you give me specific rider's you want results for - here are the top 3 for standing and flying.

Standing 1/4

Shaun Wilkin 2007 CBR1000RR 10.49s

Troy Foster 2001 GSXR1000 10.71s

Bruce McKenzie 2000 R1 10.73s

Flying 1/4

Malcolm Breadmore 2006 GSXR1300 4.79s 302.00 kph

Tony Sampson 2007 GSXR1000 4.84s 299.18 kph

Hi Guys and Girls

Well what a fanTAZtic day. I hope you all enjoyed it.

I hope this works I have attached a couple of documents that show the fastest times for each rider for the flying and the standing. They are in order of fastest to slowest. Don't forget to take into account the bike they're on for anyone just looking.

I would like to say a BIG Thank you to my Friend and Boss Steven at KITTY O'SHEA'S for all his time and effort that he's put into writing and building the program I was using today. There are a few tweaks that need doing but as some of you saw I was able to give you instant information. We plan to make it so (if you give us a legible email address) that we'll be able to send you all a report of your runs. I hope we'll be able to get this up and running for the next one and the Hill Climb.

So if your in Town at all don't forget to pop into Kitty's and say hi and maybe sample a beer, meal or both.

I'd also like to say a Big Thank you to Malcome Nabbs for his help at the beginning of the day in helping me input all your information and working out some of your hand writing!!

A big Thank you to Deano, Dina and Gary for all their organizing and work behind the scenes to make these events happen. And last but by no means least All the helpers and the Marshals that give up their time so we can all have a fun safe day.

Hope you all had fun and look forward to seeing any of you that can make it to the next one.

I had a ball and it was a privilege to actually do something useful Deano :) See you next year.

Best moment of the day goes to Hels.

A preppy couple walking hand in hand, looking like extras from "The OC". Chicky babe is wearing a brown mini-dress, obviously expensive given its flowing lines. Lad has $300 sunglasses and a pink polo shirt on. Chicky babe has long knee bandage on which diverts attention away from an obvious problem.

Obvious problem is soon highlighted when Hels yells out, "Hey that chick's got her dress stuck up her arse!"

Volume knob was on 11. Chicky babe does herself proud by staring at Hels whilst pulling mini-dress out of undies, and not missing a graceful step. Dude in pink t-shirt misses the exchange entirely.

I fall off my chair and flame takes about 30 secs to be able to talk in between gasps.

Hey guys, Once again cheers to all the organisers and marshals, etc, cant have been easy in such heat!

Twas an awesome turnout! I saw a bike there with a 40 sticker on it, was that about how many there were??

very impressive to see so many cool bikes and once again we got treated with a bit of variety, esp interested to see the ZX7r and that old stripped down GSX750 or whatever it was, pity it wasn't taller in the gears as he was on redline of the 5speed box pretty early in the piece!

My effort came just short of a REAL ton on the rg150, at 160 kph (161 point somthing is a REAL ton) but I was plenty happy with that especially as I know It would have crept on some more speed with higher gearing, as it was tapped well before the timed section without even creeping slightly.

My stainging was a 15.3 which I was stoked with, although again I know the bike has more in it......

Big ups to the guy on the VTR250 aswell, dunno if the standing time is right but he was out there on his first bike and lovin it!

I did the best I could with the tools to hand.

At the very least you can see what a fantastic day it was.

The R1 is Robertydog and when I snapped him he was doing 236 km/hr, as corroborated by his video.

The dude on the RG150 gave a very good lesson in how to disappear into your fairing.

Crazylittleshit showed some superb form as well and he is REALLY tucked in. He is one big fella and he managed to disappear into the 636 really well.

Mooch is the Yellow 748. Best sounding bike of the day and I got a rather good video of him which I shall chuck on You tube and post up after tea.

The Black and Silver CBR600 has my sidepanels on it. The silver bits to be precise. That means I kinda entered.

Marshalling is the BEST way to get a good spot.

Ha! Conspicuously of the slower bikes!

I'd like to have a go with a substantially more adult camera - a DSLR or something. My camera is a good few generations old now and hence has very significant delay on the shutter ... made the whole "follow them as they go past" thing completely impossible. I also think it would be substantially easier from a fair way off with a biggish zoom since it would make the rate of change of angle or something smaller. Would be more smooth is what I mean. A lens that holds a smaller aperture would help with longer exposures too.

I'm not about to blow two grand on a camera to find out though.
