Buying a ride

Before i think about ploughing lots of cash into bikes etc when we arrive in NZ i thought i would ask if its possible to pay your way into a competitive ride in the NZ national/club scene?

In the Uk its possible to pay for a seasons ride with a team and i assume the same may be possible in NZ.

So anyone know and have an idea of costs in $nz if this is a possibilty?

In addition to the above i'm also interested in endurance rides if theres an endurance series in NZ as i've competed in the UK endurance series(6 and 8hr races) before and finished 3rd in the 2004 series.

More than happy to team up with two other riders and contribute costs etc.

No indurance racing in NZ, they did do one at Puke a few years back but not enough interest.

Also doubt you would get much luck in finding a ride. Might be possible with Brian Bernards team but not sure about anyone else. Wouldn't have a clue on how much it would cost either. If you want to race here you're gonna have to do a lot of it yourself.

Wasn't Shaun Harris offering a "rent-a-ride" scheme at one stage? Obviously things are up in the air with him at the moment, but it has been done I think.

I notice the guy selling Andrew Strouds 2004 title winning 2003 GSXR1000 is still trying to sell the thing too. With all the labour and fruit lavished on the thing it seems an absolute bargain and would still be more than competive against just about anything. Knowing what it cost to rebuild the head on my R1 (amongst other bloody things) I can only guess at the tens of thousands of dollars that went into this thing

buy and build yourself is the easiest and most common option, aren't too many people running large race teams.
Ray Clee is the best race bike builder by a mile, but there are a few others out there, as to costs, budget on the high end of 50,000 to buy a litre bike and racify it, otherwise about 35,000 or so for a nationals grade 600. Cost of racing itself, well, that varies, but probably 9 to 12000 would be the bare minimum the nationals could be raced for.
