is there some kind of trick to getting the clip onto an o-ring chain? iv just broken two g-clamps in an attempt to get the sideplate on far enough to expose the grooves on the masterlink:shutup:

Yeah stop buying your G clamps from the $2 shop.

Ideally you use a riveting tool & a rivet link. On a 250 well, maybe it's ok. so you don't want to buy the tool for it then you might get a vice off the bench & clamp it with that & a couple of small nuts over the pins to push the plate. Don't over clamp. Bigger better G clamp should do it, need a bit of surface area & avoid twist.

Vice grips and a 6mm nut work great.

Tortron-- Ive got a "funny" set of vice grips with 2 6mm nuts welded on to suit 5 series chain. But I'd suggest you dont bother and get the bike shop to rivit the chain together for you.

And once it's on get up 10 mins early and off to your local bike shop to have the clip off and it riveted. Cheapest peace of mind you'll get on a bike, seriously.
