I was travelling down SH83 in the work ute today. 1km or so West of the Waitaki dam was a substantial section of ice on the road, on a moderate corner, around 50m in length I would guess.
Not all that strange you say - at this time of year anyway. Yea I agree.
Now this was at around 2pm in the arvo and there was no way it was going to thaw out today or probably tomorrow for that matter. So it had been like this for quite a while.
When I arrived there, there was 2 fire truck appliances onsite as they had just cleaned up a bit of a mess as a vehicle had lost it on this dodgy section of road.
What I am getting at is that there was no proir warning of the ice whatsoever. No signs - no nothing. If anyone was to hit that corner at any speed on two wheels would have their ass cheaks pretty well clenched together I would say.
Other than that its a great road to ride - I do it as often as time allows.
I wonder how many other bad spots there are out there which have little or no warning????
So anyone hitting those areas take care - theres a few dodgy bits out there.:Punk:
