They have been testing my liver and kidneys amongst other things... the nurse tested something else.

They dont think it looks good for the liver sadly and basically told me surgery ain't an option, just exercise like mad and get super fit..... and that MIGHT work, or otherwise I will just die with washboard abs.

I laughed when the Indian Doctor told me I could put myself to good use and be a suicide bomber!!

I'll have a glass of wine or two beers once a month and I haven't smoked since May 2006.

I don't eat foods with high levels of sugar - but I can't give up my red meat.

The doctors did a good job of being honest in telling me it didn't look good as the results were "very poor". I appreciated that. I hate bullshitters.

Having any chance is all I need to know to go for it and beat it. Odds are made to be beaten.... you know that about me my friend. I never give up and a "slight chance you could improve it" is all I needed to hear.

But mate, all I can say, is that you'd be surprised how well the human body fights back if it's given a fighting chance. Your doctor has given your body that fighting chance, and with your change in lifestyle you can prove to your doctor how much you can turn things around. Just remember: this is a life decision, not a new year's resolution you never really intend to keep. No slips are permitted. This time, we're playing for keeps. Remember that, and stay strong bud.

I can't top any of that but sort of know how it goes. Type 1 diabetes? Stats show it will result in a third less life expectancy meaning - well you do the math! Saving for a long retirement?? Um??

Anyway - my attitude has always been 'the hell you say' and I changed my life. Its working slower than I'd like but it's working and I don't believe half of what the medicos tell me.

Go for the fitness thing - get some help (trainer) you trust and go for it. Life is a fragile thing and you need to make sure you live it and not wait for a better day. GO FOR IT!

Hey Toaster,

to answer your original question - yes.

But I wasn't given the option of lifestyle changes to fix myself. So you are in a good place, believe it or not.

Along with all the good advice everyone has given you, I'd add either yoga and/or counselling with someone you get on with.

Sounds hippy, trippy bullshit but if you learn how to calm your mind and give it a total, peaceful rest for half an hour a day, you will be astounded at how much more of a chance you give yourself to heal.

Plus holding on to negativity, anger or fear makes any illness worse. Dump all that shit on someone else - it's what you are paying for!!

I am a total skeptic when it comes to this sort of stuff but I've proved to myself and seen it in others, it makes a huge difference to your health and of course the people you live with. Support groups can be a pain in the arse though, bunch of sick people sitting around whingeing. (Though they really help some people - each to their own.)

And transplants are a piece of piss, by the way. Because you can live pretty much a similar lifestyle to before, when they are going well.

As you said to me, and so many others did... doctors tell you the worst case possible. You're not going to die!!

Its like the witch doctor "bone pointing" practice aye, if they point the bone and you believe it.......you will die. (a physiological response in the body happens apparently...something to do with excess stress hormones releasing into the blood stream at the shock of impending doom)

Take charge Toaster, listen to what you have to do to get better.......and concentrate on that.

For what its worth, reading your posts I thought you were quite a bit younger than 35 (i.e., 20's) so you have a young out look - that has to be good

Well I have never been given the gone-bugers speech but my best friend has recently been diagnosed with HEPC (she caught it thru a botched medical procedure...long story) and she was spiralling into a pit of despair...

I told her to look on the bright side.

Whats that she asked

well, I says, you know you have it so you have got the opportunity to change your lifestyle and prevent the virus from taking over and killing yr liver.

On a sadder note, one of my very oldest friends is losing his battle with cancer and there is no point in sugar coating things.
I am going to see him this weekend and we will be discussing what he wants for a funeral/memorial etc...

I reckon getting bad news sux but at least ya know what you are up against and can put up a decent fight.

Dude, you have no idea what kind of abuse human body can withstand when one is determined. Just a word of advice: do not accidentally cause additional harm by working out improperly. Things to protect are kneecaps (can be injured by unbalanced running/cycling), testicular cords or whatever they are called (typical repetitive stress injury if you don't wear tight underwear while working out), and elbow joints (from misguided weight lifting). Take a balanced approach, try to do as much cross training as you do weightlifting and eat right.
The good thing is that at some stage endorphines kick in making workouts enjoyable. After a couple of months you'll become an athletics junkie, feeling sore if you have to miss a run or a session in the gym.
I don't wish good luck - luck hasn't got anything to do with it. Only determination. You've got a fighting chance - use it well.

Kinda takes the fun outta your day. Not what I wanted to hear at 35.

Ranty dribble over... where are my hard pills?

Got told by a consultant that if I did not stop coming off motorcross bikes like I did that I would be goneburger. However as I can't get my arse on the CR anymore, thats an easy thing to sort out. I've had my hard pills for the morning, I have a few spare if you really need them, but they are a bit hard on the stomach.

Nah really Toaster, you probably know that you need to make the changes, quite possibly common sense stuff? I'm sure your quality of life will improve alot more than you think too. As for taking the fun outta your day. Well you might have to be like me and look at new fun things that you can do and forget the stuff that is part of the problem. I've got a couple of BB guns off trade me. BB guns at 10 paces? I no longer mind putting up with a little pain from stuff like that as compared to the back pain, its nothing.

I also have a target high powered air pistol. I'm keen as long as we stay at the 10 paces. Can start with the BB guns, but I will get bored quickly with those and take a shot with the air pistol. The bow and arrows I will have to take a miss as there is no way I could use them. Ask anyone who know me, I'd do it also, I shit you not. I was asked if the BB guns hurt the other day when they arrived. So I shot myself in the side of the head at point blank range to see. North American.
And it's actually a slight on the part of the gov't as we would sign treaties with the tribes and then completely screw them over.
Ie. Sign a treaty giving them heaps of land and then letting settlers just move right in.
(fun fact of the day!)
