Oxford. England. South Central Ambulance Trust has returned its fleet of motorcycle ambulances to duty.

All paramedic Honda ST 1100 and police ST 1300 motorbikes were withdrawn from Oxfordshire earlier this year after the death of police officer James Shreeve, but following risk assessments, the paramedic machines have cleared to return to work.

Trust spokesman Helen Robinson said "They have got an exemplary safety record for the last seven years and no reason why it should not continue. They were taken out of service as a precaution but the police bike was a different model to the one we use and we are more than happy ours are back on the road."

Supt Mick Doyle of Oxfordshire Roads Policing, said the force was still acting on advice from the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), which recommended withdrawal of the ST 1300 on safety grounds.
