This staged musical and multimedia production of the classic HG Wells 1898 science fiction story is a once-in-a-lifetime epic extravaganza, out of this world entertainment, unlike anything ever to have hit these shores before.
After selling out arenas in the UK in 2006, playing to 100,000 people across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, New Zealanders will now have the opportunity to witness one of the world's most famous and best-selling recordings of all time, Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, live in a thrilling theatrical and multimedia spectacle, with a brilliant cast, including, 23 years after his death, one of the world's greatest actors, Richard Burton, at the helm "in sight and sound" as George Herbert, The Journalist.
This acclaimed musical event will feature Jeff Wayne conducting the 10-member Black Smoke Band, plus a 40-piece String Orchestra.

Aw kewl!
I was really peeved that I would just miss the show in Brisbane - this was my favourite soundtrack when I was about 8 years old, along with Rick Wakeman's King Arthur. And Harry Nilson's The Point. Anyone remember that one?
30 Sept is the sprints at Dalefield though, which I am going to.
Why do you go through weeks of nothing on, then everything happens at the same time?
Bah!

Rhino and I have paid for gold pass tickets!!!! Yipppeeee - we can't wait. This is going to be one hell (?) of a show!!! Visually, musically and emotionally. Forever Autumn was a single when my Dad died in July 1978 so it has been a special fav of mine for years. But I love the whole album. Richard Burton's narration sends shivers up your spine!!!
I can't wait to see the huge fighting machine.

"Thunder Child" is my favourite. Gives me chills.
JOURNALIST: The steamer began to move slowly away - but on the landward horizon appeared the silhouette of a Fighting Machine. Another came, and another, striding over hills and trees, plunging far out to sea and blocking the exit of the steamer. Between them lay the silent, grey Ironclad 'Thunder Child'. Slowly it moved towards shore; then, with a deafening roar and whoosh of spray, it swung about and drove at full speed towards the waiting Martians.
There were ships of shapes and sizes
Scattered out along the bay
And I thought I heard her calling
As the steamer pulled away
The Invaders must have seen them
As across the coast they filed
Standing firm between them
There lay Thunder Child
Moving swiftly through the waters
Cannons blazing as she came
Brought a mighty metal War-Lord
Crashing down in sheets of flame
Sensing victory was nearing
Thinking fortune must have smiled
People started cheering
'Come on Thunder Child'
'Come on Thunder Child'
:Punk:
JOURNALIST: The Martians released their Black Smoke, but the ship sped on, cutting down one of the tripod figures. Instantly, the others raised their Heat Rays and melted the Thunder Child's valiant heart.
Lashing ropes and smashing timbers
Flashing Heat Rays pierced the deck
Dashing hopes for our deliverance
As we watched the sinking wreck
With the smoke of battle clearing
Over graves in waves defiled
Slowly disappearing
Farewell Thunder Child!
Slowly disappearing
Farewell Thunder Child!
Farewell Thunder Child!
Farewell Thunder Child!
:bye:
JOURNALIST: When the smoke cleared, the little steamer had reached the misty horizon, and Carrie was safe. But the Thunder Child had vanished forever, taking with her man's last hope of victory. The leaden sky was lit by green flashes, cylinder following cylinder, and no one and nothing was left now to fight them. The Earth belonged to the Martians.

Yes, thanks RIB. The whole scene can be imagined just from the song and sound. Chris Thompson, a true kiwi!!!! We have got the original LP, a CD, I had a cassette that has long gone to shredded heaven, then the remixed CD version. The remixed CD version is awesome in surround sound. We can't wait to get the DVD!!! Fans.....us.....No.......!!! :gob:

Yeah, I know it's really expensive, which is a bummer for some diehard fans. However I think it is so expensive to bring here and that is why the tickets are OTT.

My wife and I have tickets. Right in the middle 20 seats back (didnt want to be too close or else it would be overpowering).
For those who would have wanted to go, but dont want to spend the $$$ or happen to live south of the Bombays - the whole concert is available on DVD (see real groovey) - when it was playing in London.
It is bloody amazing - Normally I would not shell out so much for tickets (I was stung $167 each) but after seeing the DVD a couple of times couldnt miss it out.
Vector areana BTW is really nice. Second concert for us there in two weeks - we saw Snow Patrol last week - also very good.

My darling rugrats and Domestic Controller purchased the twin DVD thingy of this very stage show for fathers day, however, I have been told I am unable to watch it until after I have seen the stage show!
Dammit, I need to find a big telly, we can have WOTW re-runs for those unable to make it to the show!

That's an understatement!! We were in the second row, dead centre. Awesome is the word I would use.:first: I was particularly impressed with the mixing of the live video of the performers with the CGI animations on the big screen. The Fighting Machine was very impressive. We were nicley toasted by the "Heat Ray" during the show.:gob:

Haha! Donor and I were sitting in the 14th row in seats 34 and 35! Mega legroom and we were merrily transfixed by the awesome legend and spectacle that Jeff Wayne brought to life!
That tripod was the bee's knees and the overall presentation was spot on. Thunder Child is one of my favourite pieces and the way they presented that (and everything else!) was like a boyhood dream come true.
It rocked me, it rolled me - could feel the well of emotions and it was over way too soon!
Anyway we saw the musical, bought the "I went to see Jeff Wayne's War of the World show and all I got was this crappy T-Shirt"
I ended up somehow mesmorised and bought :
- A program ($25 ... ooh... 3D glasses!)
- A wallprint with a tripod melting Thunder Child's valiant heart $25
- A mug (yes, I am *chortle*) ... the red writing one $15
- A keyring for Donor $15
- Tickets for premium seating for Donor and I $200 ('Tardme is your friend!)
- Dinner for two at McChuck ... $19.10 (A Big Mac and Bossman Combo)
- Finally seeing War of the Worlds done as it should be... Priceless!
Piccies ...
Pic1 : Ooh kewl Tripod with the cheesy camera shots of people in crowd for their 10 seconds of fame!
Pic2 : At the end of the show, everyone fled to the exits whilst Donor and I waited contentedly and basked in the afterglow of this most triumphant and excelsior show! Tripod still menacing
Pic3 : Oh the things we do to keep ourselves amused
Pic4 : Two more discombobulated and deranged individuals as you would not want to meet in a crowded lobby of insane psychiatric patients!
Pic5 : Row 14, seats 34 and 35 kept us happy... Donor impersonates Marcel Marceau
Pic6 : The fetal position adopted by other premium seat goers which we did not have to put up with!

The only thing that was minutely bad about the experience, was the hard seats (permenantly stuffed tailbone didnt like it) and the fact that we had to turn our heads to the side to see the production. CRAMPS!! .. lol...
the pics = awesome... facing straight on to the stage would have the most effect with the whole tripod on stage and all.

That was my first every concert :weep: :2thumbsup & you Know something Curious AJ I wouldn't change a thing about the whole experience. It was bloody well done & I would do it all again & sit in the same hard seats at the side where we were. There was heaps to see. I didn't worry about my tail bone until the end, but hey I also moved around a wee bit so I didn't get too sore. Turning head from side to side is good exercise for neck muscles....

yeah, i'm not saying it ruined it any bit.
loved it completely. I'm just saying, that the only bad thing wasnt really anything that bad.. hence, It was the awesomest.
if you catch my drift.
