Have decided to grab one and do a basic customising job and make her a single rider bike. I like the look of her and she seems simple enough not to cause too many hassles.

As I have no earlier knowledge of these bikes I was wondering if someone out there knew something worth mentioning?

There's heaps of info on the 'net.

One of the best sites is http://viragotech.com/ , but it seems to be down at the moment. Hopefully it will be back up soon, as it has heaps of stuff on early XV's.

Try http://www.drpiston.com/

and http://www.viragoownersclub.org/main.htm

and http://www.vsoc.org.uk/

There should be other interesting links to follow from those sites.

Good luck.

They're fine until you have problems with the starter motor. Then they're a nightmare.

It's not the starter motor itself that is the problem - rather, the throw out pinion which usually includes a worn ring gear - meaning replacement of the alternater rotor. Who in their right mind would have designed an engine with a throw-out pinion inside the engine. At least Yamaha kindly provide a magnet placed below the pinion to hopefully catch any stray metal filings.

Can these be fitted with a kick?

That gets me going, and clearly my decision to get the hands on that VX 750 is up there with the "I promise I will only cuddle you if you lie down with me..."

Run a search through the site mate, there's several members here that have been/are customizing XV750s.
Pat and Wired1 are the members you want to talk to.
