HELP! just rebuilt engine...not firing

Hey guys.

I've finally rebuilt my CR250. I got the cylinder repaired at Wild West Honda (big ups to these guys, repaired my cylinder and fixed my powervalve for $175 with great customer service) and purchased a wiseco pro-lite piston kit. Installed it all last night and put the rest of the bike together today.

Now comes the bad part, kicking over nicely with good compression, but its not firing at all. When I got the bike it always started on the first kick.

The question I have is how long does it normally take to kick over the bike so it starts after a rebuild? I've been kicking her over with no sign of life :( and now the bottom of my feet are bruised and sore...gotta get boots!!

Now before the engine seized up it didn't fire at all and after about 5-10mins of kicking her over the powervalve fell into the cylinder (wild west said it should never have happened and don't know how it did)...and I'm worried that the same thing is going to happen again.

I've tried checking the spark but its hard to kick her over while holding the plug against the engine and looking if there is a spark (is it normally a bright spark?)

Any ideas is more then welcome...good and bad :dodge:

I'd also like to thank everyone that has helped me since the engine seized, I'm a stubborn bastard and prefer to do things myself without help...but now I'm at my wits end...if I can't get her firing I think I'm just going to sell the damn thing and go back to road bikes (in case you don't know the bike seized on my after my first ride...a whole 30 mins)

have you made sure your engine stop switch isnt shortin on when its not meant to be? this can be a easy fix reason why a lot of bikes wont spark.


is the spark plug getting moist with all the kicking?

Put a new plug in it.

If youhave the plug out you should be able to spin it over by hand using the kickstart. One hand holds the plug against the head, the other pushes down on the kickstart - if your ignition is any good you should be able to see a spark

Its ALIVE!!!!!

Well, managed to check the spark, it was all good, plug was wet from fuel so that was fine...I just couldn't think of what was wrong...until a mate came over and suggested taking the air filter out and kicking her over....kicked her over and she fired right up.

What had happened was, after the last ride, my mate who was driving suggested we go to wash world after the ride when she died...turned out he used a wax wash on the bike and clogged up the air filter with wax!!!! no air was getting through.

going to do the break in today so she's all ready for next weekend.

Thats dead right mate-filters are a must and only work when clean.:yes:
