View Full Version : I binned it.

well it finally happened. 8 months without a bin and I went down today
half an hour ago in fact.
greville rd roundabout, came off the motorway and wanted to go right, 100m of cars in that lane so thought Id go down the left lane then merge into traffic - what I didnt count on was as I merged into the traffic that I thought was going right, the car behind me went straight through. took me out.
Completely my fault and I feel like a dick.
I spent three hours polishing my bike and now the left side is pretty well fucked.
Cops, ambulance tow truck etc..
wasnt wearing my leathers but I had my other gear on - pants jacket etc
fortunately I had my back protector on and I think this did its job when I hit a curb. What I wasnt wearing were boots and I have a bruised ankle that I know is going to start hurting real soon.
other than that not a scratch on me so it could have been worse.
I am really gutted about my bike tho. whole left side has road rash but the only things to break were pillion footpeg - my footpeg and front indicator.
as well as the swingarm bobbin for a paddock stand.
I just cabletied the fairings back on and rode her home.
Im going to find some buds.

Sounds bad dude. Pleased you survived relatively unscathed - always a good thing. Shame the bike took a beating, as in my opinion the RS250 is pretty much the ultimate in gorgeous. Hope you get it all back up and running in no time.

Any crash you can be typing about 30 mins later is a good one!

At least the bike took most of the beating, it's good to look at it that way.

I hope you've taken the lesson well and will wear full leathers next time, but chin up, these things happen and experience only makes us better.

Bugger, that's no good.

Sounds like you were very lucky said car didn't go bumpety bump over sprawled motorcyclist :shit:.

It's a bummer when learning curves are painful and expensive . . .

Hope your bumps and scrapes get better quickly.

Sorry about the pain you may be feeling by now. Also sorry about the bike.
May the pain pass quickly.

Get better soon. Hope you can fix the bike too, then get back out there and build on your riding experience.

Fuck me, how many times has your arse been sliding down the road next to an RS250 now?

Commiserations. I've almost done the same thing before, but accelerated out of the way just in time. Got to be careful about those assumptions, it woke me up.

Hope the damage is just superficial, it would be a complete pisser if you've bent the chassis again.

Being a regular around that area, and also riding past you while you were talking to the cops, I'm not quite sure how you crashed?

Coming from the motorway (heading north), both lanes turn right (dont they?), with the left lane having the option to go straight ahead...
(now I can't see it in my head). Traffic in the right lane is not allowed to go straight ahead...

Incorrect, Both have the option to go straight, only the right lane may turn right.
However, this is often misunderstood by drivers on this roundabout, I have nearly been taken out several times, and seen others get done too.

Glad you are basically ok, so I guess you learnt the lesson of wearing all the gear then huh?
Good luck with the repairs mate.

I live down at Albany and always get off at that exit.. I learnt that you gotta be very careful around there..(even when im on 4 wheels) seen heaps of blimming people dont indicate..or they swerve from lane to lane cant making up there freaking mind..

thats correct about the lane, left lane (which I was in) has the option to go left or straight, right lane may go right or straight, both lanes go right around the roundabout, I was in the wrong going right, my mistake was taking the drivers indicator for granted, did I mention it was a learner driver with his mum? I know another person that did the same thing in a car, and whats worse is I use that motorway exit everyday and probably 3 times a day on weekends. ( for those that dont know there are 2 massive roundabouts each 2 lanes wide which you can get your knee down on both before burning it up greville road for 1km without any possibility of cars pulling out

As with all my crashes (11 now) I didnt care about my injuries, I just wanted to pick my bike up. (ive walked from 10). I was so gutted about the state of my bike, if you knew me you would know how much work Ive put into all my bikes - particulary this one (I crashed it big 10 months ago,4 days after I got it with no insurance - 2 months to rebuild everyday.)

As for wearing gear I learnt that a long time ago. what I learnt this time is I will never ride without a back protecter ever again, if you dont have one, get one.
also I wear shoes over my alp stars boots 95 percent of the time, that changes. I was very lucky to bruise my ankle and not break it, I think the car hit it and it is my only injury. I worked a 10 hour day on it today tho.

I didnt ride my bike today for the first time in 8 months, but Ill be riding by the weekend, hopefully have her back to new within a month, I am really surprised how well she crashed but will be investing in oggy nobs asap.
This crash was another wake up call to slow down on the road, and will be followed through. This was an expensive lesson.

P.s. what surprised me were when 4 bikes rocked up to the roundabout at once, right next to me with my bike in full view crashed (on the island) - 3 of them (superduke +2 ducati's) did a full revolution of the roundabout (instead of going left originally) went right past me and didnt stop ?
I was injured, no money, no money on my phone with no way of getting home and it was pure luck that I was able to cable tie my fairing back on and limp the bike back home, if the situation was reversed, I would have stopped even if my friends didnt.

p.p.s - prior to this crash I had purposely denipped the bolts on my handlebars around the forks as well as on my clutch so they would both pivot rather than break and it worked a gem, the handle bar was twisted all the way to the tank and the clutch lever had moved as well, I was able to loosen said bolts and move them back to original position without any breaks, I nipped them back up how they were which was tight enough to have never have moved though a couple hundred wheelies/stoppies over the last 4 months - I would recomend this to all riders.

On a CB250RS you accelerated out of the way...
Then you woke up...

<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>Cheeky prick! :)

Compared to automatic-gearbox 1500cc lead weights, it can accelerate briskly enough.

But you're allowed to make fun of me -- you have a bike with the same engine, except the frame's heavier :second:

Okay drama queen...

Actually it was 3 bikes. Superduke R (brand new that day - nice), Ducati 749s and me on a Brutale R. It was the Superduke that did the loop to take a look at your crashed bike, not all 3. Your bike was upright and you were standing there looking embarrassed as you should. Given you had no money and this was your 11th crash, I'm glad we didn't waste our time stopping to help your sorry arse.

Number 11 eh? Perhaps you should consider buying a car or better yet, take the bus. You might be able to save some money this way.

Perhaps if you bin that much, the maybe you should invest in a crash frame or crash bungs and maybe some decent leathers. Atleast with leather you have less of a chance of requiring skin grafts when you get to the hospital. 11 times is a lot by most peoples standards, but hey atleast your no skidMark (i hope).

che bro - would that be a subliminal request for me add busa's to the list of bikes to ignore when they're in trouble - your stereotype for ducati riders is shite I've got to say der's nice ones and dud ones just like the rest & I've lifted 4 or 5 stuck drivers off the coro roads over the last few years

His best investment would be some riding lessons, just because he's walked from all his accidents so far doesn't mean he'll walk from the next one

Sure enough, this guy should indeed do something about his riding, I do not know him personally, and quite a few people here are jumping on him, but I'd like to defend a bit.

I had crash that many times by 21, so telling him to sell his bike, could be a touch premature. Why you ask? I'll put my skills up against anyone here, might not win every time, but no one will find me easy to beat.

The fact that a person biffs it a lot, does not mean they should not be riding. It simply means they have some wrong ideas, and bad habbits.

perhaps you were with 2 other bikes but 4 rocked up when you did, the extra was a ducati, and it looped as well as the other duc, im not here to thake a dig at the riders, im just saying if the roled were reversed I would have stopped bike up or down.
From my pov and judging by the time of day and your tinted visors you had a good day riding, I also did but ended bad, that makes me want to better myself, not quit.

Therein lies the problem.

Equating "skill" with "speed" is the fundamental issue here, and the desire to "improve skills" by extreme riding on public roads, is always going to irritate people.

Okay, put your skills up against mine if you like. In a speed contest, you would wipe the floor with me - no question.

On the other hand, I've had only one bin in 30 years. So who is the more skilled? We may have to respectfully disagree on that question...

For me, true riding skill lies in riding within safe limits, and with due respect for other road users.

Pushing the limits on public roads has nothing to do with skill.

I cannot fault your opinion here, because a lot of what you say is true, and the contest thing was more me thumping my chest than anything, but the heart of my point is this, although I was very silly on a bike in my younger days, (up untill quite recently if I'm being honest), I now push the limit on the track rather than the road. It takes some of us longer to grow up than others, and no matter how many times those of us resistant to the idea are told, it has to be a personal choice to do it. Including a person on rides, and giving constructive advice, without lecture is always gonna do more than flat out telling them to do something different.

More bees with honey and all that shit.

Peace out, keep at least one black hoopy thing rubber side down.
