Developer has land he cant bulid on. To steep (like ridgeline steep) and expensive to use and some permit he had expired.

Council has a dog reserve on flat land in Karori with great views, 10 minutes from city Because its a reserve is not worth anything as you cant build on it so on a piece of land big enough for 40 houses, they value it at $13,000. Yep thats $325 per house.

Council and developer do a swap, but his land is worth more technically as its not a reserve so the council PAID him the difference (cant remember the amount but it was ALOT)
And then council takes the reserve title off (while keeping it very quiet), put in services and keeps it off the "district plan" so developer has NO limits on size or lack of size on houses. Houses are on hill so they are going to shade houses behind and beside but because its not under the district plan, homeowners have no comeback.

Could you average person have brought this land? Nope, whose paying for this-the ratepayers, we are such suckers. Anyone else want a section for less than $500? Ring the council and see if they have any others

What do you do to fight this? who do you talk to, anyone have a contact in the dominion (by the way public notification was done in the herald, not the popular papers people read down here). Notification letters mostly got lost somewhere, the "public meeting" was kept very quiet.

What do you do?

This post will be seen by several Wellington journalists... a KBer (who shall remain nameless) is married to a Dominion Post reporter too. So your post will not be in vain.

How'd you find out about this?

That Tony Stanlake guy who got his hands chopped off and murdered? He was a crooked developer who did dodgy deals like that, and allegedly intimidated people opposed to his developments too. I know a few people unsurprised he was bumped off...

I should mention that already one of the diggers on the site was sabotaged, which was dumb because it belonged to a contractor. Someone scratched up the windows and superglued the locks. I think other stuff was done to but I dont know.

What do you do?

Firstly go to City Hall and make sure that you have all of the facts lined up.

Secondly accost your local City Councillor with the information you have assembled and ask them what, if any, role they had in that process.

Thirdly have a chat with the Dominion Post's chief reporter and outline your information to them.

Remember it's less than three months to run until the Local Government elections, and any whiff of scandal may well be seized on by all sorts of opportunists.

Ha ha.. that's excellent. I've just sprayed coffee in my keyboard.

Be sure of your facts? When sending them to a journalist???

Can you hear yourself?

You could speak to a city councillor directly - there's one that lives across the street from me...

a quote from one of the city councilors that have been involved in this development debacle (and who incidentally grew up in the very same street its going on):

"you lot have to get used to it, the development is happening, there's nothing you can do about it"

That was at one of the 'community meetings' where locals were asked to debate the issue. I am glad we voted in these f**ktards who think the best thing is to keep the developers sweet. :dodge:
What really gets on my tits is that the houses they will build there will be the spray on, leaky home, polystyrene bullshit houses they are building everywhere now. You know the kind - where you can take to the walls with a chainsaw and gain entry cause the bloody walls are made of polystyrene with spray on 'stucco'!
Don't even get me started on the increase in traffic for a very narrow cul de sac!

Council and developer do a swap ... what do you do to fight this?
You start by posting names, dates, sources of documentation etc. When were the meetings held, who attended. Get copies of the minutes and post them up here as scans, PDF's or even just pictures of the pages.

I want to know. It's long been my assertion that Wellington appears to be run for the sole benefit of property developers and it would be nice for a few of them to get a kicking.

Maaaate!
Sounds like a 'who knows who' scenario.doesn't surprise me. Up here on the Shore there was a case just over the road. Subdivision went in, plots were marked out and a big sign went up....'Single dwelling sites only'. All good until one guy decides to buy four plots. Big moan from us and neighbours. Plots got onsold to developer, sign disappeared, nothing on paper, sixteen units went on four plots. I know one neighbour who ended up with units on THREE boundaries after being told (verbally mind you) that it would never happen.

Suddenly, the broken-arsed prat who was on the council overseeing the sites was driving a brand new Falcon. Co-incidence?

You be the judge.

They are all bent, mate. Plain and simple

have you a folder of facts? There is a few people we can past this onto.

Perhaps you can also lay a complain with the police for corruption?
