View Full Version : Auckland: Cruiser Rides

Dudes and dudettes, just some thoughts about the next ride:
Firstly - That we post under "Meetings and Events" as per the website protocol. Yes the ride is first and foremost a networking event for cruiser riders.
However, maybe we should consider creating more interest from cruiser enthusiasts and bikers that ride other bike categories, but prefer the more relaxed pace of our rides. This could also be a good chance to help the newer riders and/or 250 club members to come along and gain confidence.
Secondly - That we consider posting rides at shorter notice than a month out if we see good weather coming up for a Saturday or Sunday for a given week.
Thoughts/ideas please?

Well seeing as it sometimes takes me a month to get the money up for a long ride (and if I'm joining you auckland folks it will be a long ride) I'de prefer the longer notice.
But that's just me, you folks can do as you please and I'll just show up when I can.

Agreed on all counts, provided the focus does remain as social networking event for cruiser riders.
I've yet to get out on one of these rides as I've had prior arrangements each time one has come around. More frequent rides at shorter notice would likely get more of us out there and mix up the field a bit.

I would agree, as that is probably the first place that most people wanting to join a ride would look.

A very good idea. We may get ScorpyGirl out on her Virago to join one of the cruiser rides.

Yep, agreed no problem with either point, though I might add that saterday rides would suit some of us better, and including 250 club or noobs also a really good point, provided they can wander along at Light Speed Normal ie legal speeds..

Understand that also, and for us thats certainly have no problem with long notice,
mybe a social night out for the cruiser and newbe's .
This for us would definately need to be on a saterday..
Basically when the weather warms up Im sure there wil be demand for more frequent rides anyhoo, hard to pass up a fine saterday or sunday:rockon:

How about lets all keep in touch using pm's off this thread (no, not an invitation to touch) and watch that weather forecast.
One of the cruiser rider group can then post up (based on feedback) a Saturday ride in the meetings thread for the next fine weekend day and we'll go for it based on whoever is keen on any given week.
As a rule of thumb, lets try for roughly at least one ride a month anyway to make sure we are getting out there as a group and building interest in cruisers.
I hope that made sense... its been a long day in the office.

I say, are there any Whangarei cruisers up there? if so, we could do a run up and meet em, probably around a 350-400k run
Constellation Dr Mobil - Warkworth - Wellsford - Bryndewn - Whangarei - Dargaville - Bryndewn - Wellsford - then either back to Constellation or left side to Helensville and Home.. for me such a run would need to be a saterday tho...
So, not nessesarily next run but its one I would be keen on at some stage.. a reasonably long run so would need an early start also but great on a good day I would think..

Maybe I should just hitch a trailer to the wagon and tow the bike around the corners?!
Took a nice chunk out of the footpeg on SH16 on the last ride.... tried to corner a tad too fast and the limited lean over angle is a bit unforgiving on the 109.

I would be keen to catch up with you guys on my C90 for your next run. I could not get away early today but had a good ride from West Auckland where I live, to Kaukapakapa. Quite a few cruisers and bikes about up that way. May have passed you guys going the other way. Left home about midday and came back via Taupaki for a change. I can't believe how good it is being back on the bike again. Big 60th coming up this month, despite having a re-count! But, riding a bike is better than playing bowls!!!

Jafar & I went up to Kaukaup.. to Wellsford to Leigh and back down to puhoi and home, bloody marvellous run, except for a little unsurfaced road up around leigh which made it a bit interesting, had to blast a pile of mud off when I got back  but all in all a good 200k run and good company.. Yep, you are on it"Hogs & Cruisers is where we tend to chat abiout alsorts including rides, when its a firm arrangement it will be under the M"Meetings & Events" Forum and also there will be a Listing in the "Calender" section.
But as some rides are just informal, last minute affairs, just keep an eye on all three areas :-)

Agreed - I've left it where it is in this instance, but added Auck to the title for you. However, the ride is being organised across two threads???
There are advantages for all by posting these rides in the Meetings & Events. For example, you can list it under a region, which makes it quick and easy for people to check events in their area - and not the others.

Good points made about thread placement. For some of us, we are still coming to grips on how best to do things and appreciate the friendly guidance. Cheers.
By the way are you coming up for the Rapa Rumble?

Well the meeting went well didnt it?, dozens of bikers.. (NOT) (pub was closed-- OOPS) so we cruised on over to the waterfront (and promptly lost the lass on the Honda Magna)for a coffee and chat.. Then escorted the "109" home to the west.. (you know you cant let 109's out by themselves, bit like a dog they tend to run off and chase Sporty's), Anyhow we carried on up 16 to Helensville, at which point it was decided to find the back road to Puhoi Pub.. So, programmed it into the Navman and set off.. I must say at this stage that Jafar was casting doubts on the Navman to get us there, recons we seem to end up on farm tracks (dont know where he gets that idea from)
Not a bad sort of road either I must say, a few short stretches of gravel but all in all a nice ride, mostly sealed and good nick.. Now we know where it goes its on the list for another visit some time.
Thanks for the company guys and gals..
