Just reading the latest Uni of Canty College of Engineering Bulletin (they usually go straight in the bin) and saw a article on the back about four guys from Whakatane riding from Cape Town to London. They've titled their adventure the African Odyssey and their web site is here (http://www.africanodyssey.co.nz/index.php?pageID=200).

I've not read much of it yet but it sounds like there may be a doco of their trip on the box at some stage. Some short vids and a online diary on their page.

Not sure about the comments that most wouldn't even ride their bikes to the cow shed - a TTR20 raid, XR250 Baja, Dominator and KLR650 - they all seem pretty reasonable bikes to me???

Cheers R

I agree, sensible bikes that can do the business.
Rather one of them than a two wheeled battle ship that you can't pick up/throw around.

After reading a few of their blogs I think the condition of the ride rather than the ride type is the issue. Have a similar experience with mountain bikers and those who spend a $1000 on a second hand Shimano XT equipped bike which is completely flogged when a brand new deore level bike would give them trouble free use. Not saying I would attempt a tour like that on the GN but If it was brand new would have more confidence in it than using a 1990 tourer with 100000km on the clock.
