Its my first post - so be nice.

I've always been a car nut, having built and tracked several cars. Over the years my cars got smaller and smaller, lighter and open topped. Currently driving a heavily modified, turbo'ed MX5.

My wife told me - be done with it - go get a bloody bike and at least that way you wont look like a hairdresser.

So I thought "What the hell" grabbed a GN250 (learners licence etc etc etc), some good quality satfy gear and went for a lesson and basic skills handling. no biggie.

Anyway - today was my first time "out on the road" - obviously not thrashing around the roads, but a nice cruise. I was expecting to enjoy it - after all ive driven all sorts and have a passion, but this REALLY go me going. I loved the feeling - the freedom, connection with the road etc etc etc.

So now (having wondered for so long) - I now know why so many people are passionate about their biking.

Looking forward to hanging out here on the boards and learning.

C

P.S. Wife has also signed off on a large cruiser for when my 250cc limit is off - on the condition I let her have the GN - what can I say??

Welcome to the site. Under pressure, I commend your taste in cars although I'd like to point out that the MX5 in our household is registered to my wife:yes: I do drive it under pressure though:innocent:

Hurry up and pass your test then avoid getting a GSX-R of any capacity. No-one will call you a hairdresser if you get one, but they will recognise that you've got a little willy:shit:

Thanks for the heads up on the 250 ride in Aug - I will definitely get myself sorted for that. is there a link or a specific place I should be looking for info on this?

Good point on getting the wife to get her licence now - the sooner shes hooked the better. Would you believe that she's the one getting the booklets on the big bikes??!!??! she cannot wait.

Welcome!

If the GNs got the stock tyres I highly recommend a set of Avon Roadrunners. The standard ones are just too square. Look up MotoHaus in Morningside

Easy... say: "NO!!!!! I WANT A SPORTSBIKE!!!" welcome to the site dude... those MX-5's, although the impression of "hairdresser... or even hairdresser's assistant" is thought of about the drivers, they are a good handling car... but yes, welcome to the world of bikes...

Not sure how much stuff you will learn on here... remember this: being a open internet forum, you are bound to get some bad advice, but along with that, there is lots to laugh at, and yes, even after all of that, there is always something to learn at the end of the day...

Have fun out there :)

It'll be two years in August since I saw the light, having spent a fortune on cars and driving over the previous 30yrs. In the next month or so the transformation will be complete and the last toy car will be gone!! If you enjoy driving, you'll love biking. Build up your skills steadily with the GN and if you enjoyed the modded MX5, get a 600 sportsbike - you'll wonder what you saw in the MX5.....

Hurry up and pass your test then avoid getting a GSX-R of any capacity........

On the contrary.... Get a GSX-R600!! And if you enjoyed tracking the MX5 or any car, take the bike to the track..... again you'll wonder what you saw in the car. There's so much more skill involved and its so much more involving. And in my experience there are many more trackdays available and it's much cheaper than running the car!

Good move!!

Welcome to KBer.

IMHO...The value in this site is in the meetings and events section...in it, you'll find lots of local gatherings and typically, those that go along are happy to offer advice to improve your skills. Listen to that advice...more often than not they've learnt the hard way.

Enjoy the GN, many a learner rider has started on a GN and have learn the skills that keep them alive to this day.

nope - its my salary - but all married guys know the rules whats mine is hers, whats hers is spent on handbags and shoes.

Went for my first cruse last night. Its amazing - I never really noticed how many people drive like total assholes around bikes (Personally like horses I have always given them a wide berth).

Still first lesson learnt - treat cars like they are all out there to kill ya.
