I've recently purchased a zxr 250 that needed a little work to get it going. I replaced the airbox because the old one was leaking and it made a big improvement but still had some flat spots in the mid revs and felt like it was down on power in the top end. Looking at a zxr 250 manual I noticed a part of the airbox in the diagram that I don't have in my airbox. I'm not sure what it is or whether it could be cause of my problems. Can anyone identify this part. Here is the picture.

yeah from memory thats the little metal mesh... shouldn't do too much in terms of air flow I would think.
Has it got an aftermarket exhaust? if so maybe it's running lean
