Event location: Auckland - North Shore

Short notice ride for those interested in joining myself and another M109R rider this Saturday.

Targeted for cruiser riders and enthusiasts as well as encourage other riders keen come along to do a group ride at road legal speeds.

TIME: 0945 for 1000 (10am) departure.

START POINT: BP DAIRY FLAT SH1

Meet in the carpark north of the Burger King at the BP Petrol Station in Diary Flat off SH1 - which is south of the Silverdale off-ramp. using that northern-end of the carpark will keep the bikes well clear of the petrol station traffic.

ROUTE: Suggest north to SH17 then across Kahikatea Flat Road to SH16,

Up SH16 to Wellsford (5-10 min stop at the end of SH16 for fuel/loo/pick up other riders etc) onto SH1 over the Brynderwyns to the turn-off to Waipu,

Waipu to Mangawhai via backroad then back to SH1,

SH1 to Puhoi for a drink and disperse.

RULES: Keep the bike behind you in view and stay together as a group. If the bike behind you stops or drops off, do the same to ensure they are looked after and the back-markers keep up.

LUNCH - decide on the day - same for petrol stops, if needed.

MY NUMBER (no longer used) just in case you get lost... so I can laugh at you.

I thought about that, but had made a commitment to a morning ride. The gap between will give us all time to powder our noses.

Weather is better for the morning at this stage too, so kept it earlier in the day for that reason.

I would love to come but unfortunately I havent ventured out to the motorways/ statehighways, and I dont know northshore very well.

But I am going to keep on practising and I will get there...

If someone is willing to pick me up, i.e. show me the way there and drop me back of to Mt albert road and the group doesnt mind my slowish speeds ( cause i havent been on the motorway) I dont mind tagging along.

Up to you guys.

The fog is lifting Steve...1/2 and hour ago i couldnt see to much outside but now i can see a cloudless sky and sun on the hills to the west and north (dome)..so by 10am things should be looking spanking!

Toaster
28th July 2007, 08:05
spanking!

... I love that word..... :spanking:

I checked the weather map, stuck my finger in the air, threw a piece of grass to the wind.... yep, weather forecast looks good to me. The fog will as always lift soon enough and we should easily get through the ride today before the poor weather arrives later on tonight. :cold:

See you all at the two pick up points - BP Diary Flat 10am depart and 11am (ish) Wellsford - top of SH16 opposite the Caltex. :ride:

it was such a pretty road, it was a like a red rag to a bull. or you know that feeling ya get when ya see a speed camera, so ya speed up and wave, and dont forget to smile.

but was bloody funny once i started heading back to welsford, saw zrxer and a few of the others heading down SH1, they werent too far behind ya maha. just took a different turn off.

Belatedly thanks to Toaster for well organised ride, enjoyed it apart from the "marbles" on the hill road between Waipu and Mangawai. Only got about three corners wrong all day, those sphincter tightening ones we all love to experience

Thanks mate. Yeah I would have thought those 'marbles' would have been cleaned up by now. It had been sometime since I was last through there so though they would have cleaned it up.

Mind you, good for the riding skills to try the slippery stuff on corners like that. Good to see every made it through and Mack had fun dodging the stones flicked up from BMZ's fat-arse 280 tyre.

I managed to take of half a footpeg knob on SH16... not hard to do on the low slung cruiser though! Can't lean over very far like the Gixxer used to! Sometimes I forget.....
