Oil and filter with a four-stroke.

Ok, so I need to change the oil on my Bike.

I know how to do it just unsure about the filter. Should i do that everytime i change the oil aswell?

They were out of stock of the one i need and im going riding this weekennd and cant get one tomorrow.

Do i have to change it or will it be ok for this weekend

I always change the filter at the same time as the oil for convenience.
It won't matter for your weekend ride though.

You wont want to pay for two lots of oil, so when your filter arrives catch the (already replaced) oil in a pan and put it back in.

Edit: Or leave the oil/ filter change until after the weekend. A few hundred k's shouldn't make a difference.

Check the service interval for your bike. Typical is filter change every 2nd oil change.

Do yourself a big favour and buy the oil filter socket too (from any bike shop) About $20 and they save a ton of mucking around, swearing and cursing (this coming from one that experienced too many years hammering a screwdriver through the old one and suffering through the ensuing mess and problems).

YZF's have a cartridge tyre oil filter so do not need a socket, but your right on spin on oil fitlers they are well worth the money

with modern four stroke MX bikes, oil every 5 hours and filter every escond time, you can get washable stainless steel filters which you just wash every time
