Ooo hoooo yeeeaaaahhh ummm I love Coro Loops and like them better with good weather. :Punk:

Three weeks of cold turkey to go. :shifty:

I'm rearing to do a Coro loop. Been some time and be good to catch up with old faces and umm erm, some new ones of course :)

Mind you, gotta keep the pace down so we all live a bit longer eh? August is the coldest month, there's green stuff in the shade, the corners are damp and then you have the Coro denizens who aren't used to bikes cos they haven't seen them for months, then there's the squashed possums on our apex lines, the crap from the hills after all the slips, car loads of P crazed hill billies and of course us :)

What I'm trying to say is don't go to fast or you'll leave me well and truly behind :(

Errmm, I think you should be ok mate?
I think Zrxer means keep your knees onboard so no knee sliding at 170kmh around the corners, no long wheelies between corners, staying in your own lane unless overtaking and when overtaking try and keep it under 300kmh.
Also no overtaking on blind corners either cos that can be a bit dicy on the public roads.

Cos it's August there'll be damp corners, green corners, corners with chuck on them and perhaps the odd patch of diesel or oil, non of which adds up to a good race track.

So, I think if we all stay under 300kmh, keep both wheels on the ground as much as possible, get off and push our bikes around the dampish corners etc, we should all be ok and get home in one piece.

Common Kiwifruit, surely you can manage that for a few hours eh?

Sounds more and more like I'll be able to keep up on this ride for once.

Hey, Mav's ride yesterday was a learner friendly ride (for learners)... 2/10 in difficulty [just coz of the slick roads and rain]. the coro loop is treacherous Id give it a 6/10. Though Im gonna be takin it slow and steady as usual, many of the guys enrolled are coro junkies and have the roads sussed. having said that its the middle of august and the roads are gonna b pretty mossy. Id say u shd pm the guy organizing the ride.

I'm of the opposite opinion re the comparison between rides.
Yes due to time of the year the roads are not going to be "ideal" however the roads ridden on Mav's ride yesterday are more enclosed therefore giving less visibility plus in some parts the road conditions were far worse than what I've seen the Coro to be in recently.
Also as ZRXer has mentioned this particular ride will NOT be a balls out yee ha.
I'd believe that if you're comfitable riding around the 100kmph mark then you'll have a blast and learn a heap from some more experienced riders.

I'm just looking forward to a fun (remember that word) group ride, with social intercourse and no bins (cos the bins waste precious time). I don't really give a fuck about how fast anyone rides, just as long as they do it within their own limits and realise that there are others (including cops) out there as well. Ride your own ride and the guy in front of you owns the road. Simple really as the difference is all there, between your ears.

I just came up SH22, which is slightly tighter, mossier and today, wetter, than the coro loop and it is just a road with a variable surface, no problems if you think as you ride.

Engage brain then start the bike and everyone has fun......it ain't rocket science.

Just after the Papakura turnoff heading South on the Southern Motorway.
You go three kilometres past the Papakura turnoff and pull off left where it shows all the services, Macdonalds, Mobil, Autobahn etc.

If you hit Drury, which is after the Papakura turnoff you went too far. :)

And remember: This is a RIDE NOT A RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which means this will be the frist Coro ride I'll be able to keep up with everyone on.

Some of the best motorcycling roads in the country though this time of the year is not always the best time to make the most of them unfortunately as there's damp bits and green bits but more than made up for with heaps of loverly twisties, open sweepers, short straights, pretty bits and nice burgers topped up by a few very boring straights that need to be crossed to get there. Bout sums it up I think??

Oh, don't buy gas in Coromandel as it's .18c a litre dearer than anywhere else.

Yeah but i do go a tad over that sometimes....NEDWN :Punk:

I'm just looking forward to a fun (remember that word) group ride, with social intercourse and no bins (cos the bins waste precious time). I don't really give a fuck about how fast anyone rides, just as long as they do it within their own limits and realise that there are others (including cops) out there as well. Ride your own ride and the guy in front of you owns the road. Simple really as the difference is all there, between your ears.

Just my $92875798475.05

what he said....
how ever i would like to add: just ride to your abillity, find out where they are going to stop and catch up with them there. dont try and keep up with the big bikes, most of the guys with them are very experanced with riding the coro loop. its there play ground.

Hi bike_freek, I wouldn't worry about how many 250's are on the ride. What you normally find is the fast guys are up front and you normally end up in the position that is most suited to you and your bikes ability. This can be good practice as you normally end up following and watching the lines of a slightly better rider.

ZRXER will no doubt brief ya all on the day, but just some tips from personal obervations.

1. Easily said, harder to do: RIDE your OWN ride. In other words ride to your own abilities. What happens is this:
a. Newbies feel like dorks if they are slow and ride harder to look good.
Short answer is you end up looking bad and so does your bike. No one cares how quick or how slow you are, enjoy yourself.
b. Newbies think they are on a small nimble bike which can corner better than the big bikes. True, except the people on the big bikes have heaps of experience and generally can run rings around even a real good rider on a 250.
If a big bike goes around a corner fast, don't think you can too and maintain the same speed. You will lose. It aint pretty. Enjoy yourself.
c. New riders feel like they will get lost and left behind. Someone will always point the way at the major intersections. Follow the main road and any important turns will be pointed. So don't fret and ride harder cos you feel like you will be left behind. You will always catch up at the important stops. 40 bikes stopping for lunch at Coroglen takes nearly two hours to feed em. If the worst comes to the worst and you do happen to get lost reverse your route. Enjoy yourself.
d. Some of the corners on the route are decreasing radius, negative camber and can catch you out if you don't know where they are. Don't push your personal limits. If you feel uncomfortable, your visor starts fogging easily at speed or your breathing gets rapid, you are well outside of your comfort zone
so slow down and enjoy yourself.

2. The Coro loop has some of the best roads for motorbikes in this country.
There is everything, tight twisties, 35kmh corners, sweepers, short straights, long straights, corners alongside cliffs with clay and gravel on them, damp patches, wet patches, different seal, odd roadworks from time to time. Watch the road, look ahead, the scenery is breathtaking but unless stopped you are riding a motorbike, there is no room for error so concentrate. Don't be a statistic but enjoy yourself and the ride.

3. I never drink while riding unless it's the end of the day and some mundane roads heading home and then only a stubby at the most. Other than that, it's full concentration at all times. You can do everything right but there are other idiots on the road. Be prepared at all times, don't panic if anything goes wrong. Enjoy yourself.

NB: The most repeated word: ENJOY. The Coro loop is my personal favourite and it is to be enjoyed.

Have fun on the day. Stick to the above and you will arrive safely home.

Hey Guys

Beyond said it well, but I'd like to add one piece of seemingly obvious advice,

In my experience the twistiness of the Coro Loop is a blessing to bikers but a damn nuisance to cage drivers, because of this, without exaggeration I estimate that about 65% of cage drivers hug the center line and all too often cross it.

Now I know it isn't the ideal line through the corner, but I work very hard to stay mostly in the left hand wheel track, especially on the blind left handers, more often then not that cage that passes you will be too far to the right and quite likely just into your lane as well.

Cheers

Shane

Hey All,

I drive up to Coro Town most weekends and since the big storm, the council has been quite active cleaning up the roadside between Thames and Coro. When I went up last weekend, there was still a lot of pea gravel and mud residue on a good number of the blind bends as a result of their verge and ditch cleanup. Please take care!

I saw your pic's on the other post, Nigle the blond dude on the new black Tiger what is his KB logon name?

Not sure you can do that Steve........Raj has suggested groups, maybe different start times for groups...3 groups at 20min intervals with a lunch meet somewhere.

This would cover the safety concerns.

I have had go drop out, however, if I was later able to make the ride, I am not going to be told to fuck off which seems to be your approach.

We have had bigger numbers, but not on Coro. As long as everyone takes it careful and remains polite to others on the road and that includes the cages then It will be OK. Remember Bins waste time and that means less time for intercourse..! The social kind you naughty little buggrs. Arrive on time, listen to the route description and have fun.

Riders will e and always do look out for their fellow riders and anybody who doesnt wanna respect their fellow riders shouldnt be riding in a group.. its quite simple really, Ive ridden from Hamilton to New Plymouth in a group of 60 odd riders and that was fine (apart from when you all stopped to eat!)

Oye guys - Lay off ZRXER:nono:

The Coro Loop often brings out the best and the worst in riders.

Like ZRXER I too have organised a few rides around the area. It is a proper nightmare co-ordinating groups and as a ride organiser you always feel responsible for everyone on the ride.

In the end this is his private ride, not a public service. If he wants to limit numbers to make the logistics of the situation more manageable, then I say, "good on him".

Lets just establish what this is all about for a moment. We have a ride advertised for this Saturday. It is something of a "signature" ride in these parts. It involves a ride around the Coromandel Peninsular, it is open to all comers. So far so good.

I am reading so many posts from fellow members advocating be safe, ride your own ride, fuck off if you think anything else is acceptable, it will be fine, this ride is closed, kind of posts it is obvious there are some concerns. Lets face it the KB community have lost some much loved members not so long ago on this ride, and it has cost many others $$$$ in repairs. And there is a desire in some to PROVE they have balls.......in my experience most lads do, you dont have to prove it

There are experienced, skillfull riders out there that might do this ride shit loads faster than most, there are experienced fast, riders that will do this ride and get away with any mistakes they may make. There are others that will ride outside their ability trying to prove them selves to ???????????????

I currently ride pillion and have done this loop the figure of 8 way once. Had a lovely ride, tho parts of that coast road can get stuffed!!! We dont ride fast, but that is ok! Important to mention it is OK! Never been more than teased for it and would like to think respected for it.

FWIW all you gungho testosterone (experienced in some instances) laden riders can stay at home.

lol.. good ol' kb.. not quite like the old days, but if you squint, turn your head to the side and change the contrast on your monitor, it could almost be it..

you do know more will turn up than 'just registered'..?? just happens. For one, I was going to be coming, but didn't know there was a registry. So since I've already planned it, I'm gonna be going anyway, with or without a 'group' and no doubt I'll just catch up. But hey, takes half a second to create another thread for a ride same day same time..
just roll with it, get hints n tips from those with knowledge and experience of said events (plenty of us around), and ye shall be fine. it's just about structure, taking charge, and being in command. Think of bikers like lemmings. Lead, and they will follow. Get lost and they crash. Not so much for those with experience, cos the older lemmings just go do their own thing. The group will naturally split into the slower / mediumish / faster groups anyway, cos thats how it works. Just make sure you know where you're going, and if you're not sure/the faster, then get someone who does/is to lead, and make sure at junctions you use the second bike buddy system so everyone knows where they're going.

End of the day, it's not a race blah blah, but people are riding their own bikes. They stack it, it's their problem and fault. No one is timing shit, so don't waste your breath. If it wasn't on this that they'd crash, it'd be somewhere else. Just happens. get over it, and really dude, don't panic.

Hi people I have been reading the resent posts and I have one or two thinks I would like cleared up.

1. I have registered for the ride but I understand that some people have received notification that they have been deregistered from the ride on Saturday. I have not received such a notification so I assume that I am still invited. I would like this clarified as I do not want to show up to an event that I am not welcome.

2. It appears from a number of posts to this thread that there are many people that would like to make the ride on Saturday. So I would like to suggest that who ever is organizing the ride makes a list of the names (login names) he/she has allowed on the ride and then any other riders that turn up can do there own thing. As I think that there are people just going to turn up any way which leads me to ask that will happen then. I think it would be a good idea to know what you plan to do before the day as on the spot divisions can lead to more issues.

As I have not made many posts or organized any rides I do not mean offend any one, but I would like to know about the above points.

doc, my sympathies on the loss of your friend.

I know and have ridden with more than half of the members registered hence my interest in the ride. As I said, I would be there if I weren't going to the track. These bigger rides I think should be treated as social events... heck they'll stop so often... not GPs. Little interest in the bins having been almost hit by a binning bike weekend before last on the Kaiaua ride.
