Weekend plans turned a bit to custard, so as it was a fine day the Missus suggested I go for a ride..."You've been itching to get on the bike for a ride so why don't you take off while I go for my appointment?":love:

I don't usually need too much encouragement, though we'd been planning a ride together next chance we got. So on with the gear and I figured I might even be able to catch up with the cruisers and join in. Got halfway out Kahikatea Flat Rd and next thing got a whack above my left eye! I ride with the visor up, normally due to the big screen in front, but this time a bee managed to flick in over the screen and up under the visor.:dodge: Even missed the sunnies!

Wasn't sure what had hit me at first, but I twigged pretty quick once it stung me!!!!:yes:

As I had been very allergic in the past, nearly dying of anaphylactic shock when I was in the bush, I figured discretion to be the better part of valour and took Wainui Rd home. Don't feel too bad at the moment, but sure spoiled the morning!:bye:

Oof! Them bees sure can do the damage - I had a bumblebee smack off my chest on a ride today (wasn't too bad) ... only noticed I must have flown through a small swarm of the buggers .. boots covered in big splats and the bike as well! :eek5:

And being stung...yeah, I remember getting one down the front of my top and the bugger got me good!

I hope you ain't suffering too much from any adverse reactions (mebbe a trip to the chemist?)

My brother found out hes allergic after he got hit smack between the eyes and had the whole top half of his head swell up!

Me old mate was out on his bike near Hamilton a few years ago, Open face helmet, Bee flies in, stings him on the head, He hits the anchors, nearly gets the bike to a stop when he passes out, A few people stop, he's dieing, a nurse pulls up, finds his Life saving kit he carries, Plugs him full of the wonder drug, Gives him a pat on the head and carries on her way.

Another life saved.

Do you carry meds with you when riding should you ever get stung to take straight away to stop any reaction/swelling happening to you?


I have been stung on my cheekbone and that hurt.
Was just about to close the visor and BANG.
Was on Peak Rd at the time and miles from anywhere.

Yeah I was anaphylactic to bee venom but had the treatment and supposedly I'm not allergic any more. Haven't been stung by a bee since, and I'm sure the first time I get stung I'm going to be terrified, even though I know the treatment worked!

Hope you're feeling a bit better now. Put a cool compress on the area, take some antihistamines and look after yourself. Make it an excuse for some pampering by your Mrs - it was her fault after all! :)

Yeah, for years afterward I was afraid of getting stung again, but the course definitely worked. I feel fine this morning and the swelling has all but gone.

My reaction this time is about the same as it used to be before I became allergic, which is very mild. No itching even.

At the time I went into shock, the Doc said that anyone can suddenly become allergic at any time. I'd been stung numerous times over the years and never reacted before. Wierd.
