View Full Version : A little mad (Is this normal for a new Hyosung gt250r?)

Hi guys, just need some advise.
I got a new Hyosung gt250r the other day and have notice the casing for the kill switch on the right handle bar (where the start button etc is, below the front break fuild thing lol) can be moved right around, also if you pull hard enuff i.e. holding the bike up by the right grip that the whole thing can come off, I called the shop i got it from but they are being "eggs" and the lady today even said that all there bikes do this, I have told them that i am not happy and it would be dangerest to ride. however they keep saying they will come out and have a look but they never turn up or call when they say they will.
I checked the left side and this handle bar does not move a bit.
Now I think its when they put the alarm in as they needed to remove the casing to the start button to put a kill switch in it and when they did it up they must have stripped the screw or something, I have had a look under the casing and tighten up the screws i can see however i did notice on the main screw that when you tighten it, it gets to a part and becomes lose again (i.e. like someone has stripped the screw or the casing)
I just want to know if it is normal for the whole casing to move or is this shop trying to just fob me off.

Cheers for that I have just text one of the owners about it, telling them that i know it should not move and that i have wasted a whole day waiting for someone to turn up or call, if i dont hear from them on monday i will tell them to pick the bloody thing up and refund my money including on road cost etc,
They even forgot to attach the L plate which i asked them to do twice before it got here, rang them 10 mins after they dropped it off saying it was missing the L plate and they told me they would couier it out to me (this was thursday) did not turn up friday so i text them asking to bring one on saturday but still nothing.
I am just really pissed off as I cant ride it and it has been 3 days now, i have had a go around the town complex but cant take it on the road, so i have a new bike that is just sitting in the garage doing nothing.
Oh and when they sent out this L plate they also told me they were sending out teh warrenty card as well, well dont have that either, might pay to run a check on the number plate and see if they even bothered to put it under my name or do the change of ownership

Don't really want to name them just yet, will give them to monday afternoon, after that i will post the dealer and the person i was dealing with (which is one of the owners).
All i want is it to be sorted, and there is no way in hell they will be doing any services on the bike. :nono:
The main thing that pisses me off is all it takes is a phone call, when i called today they said that 2 people did not show up for work today and they are short staffed but did say she would talk to the other owner to see what time he could make it out, this was before lunch (they are open from 10 - 2pm on saturdays) so i spent all day waiting for the call when i could have been out doing other things, and the fact that the bike is just sitting there as I dont feel safe riding it when the grip is like that.

mountains outta molehills if you ask me. There should be two screws (or bolts) around the back of the casing. Tighten them and away you go. It probably rattled loose or wasnt tightened properly at the factory or some such foolery. Its not a biggie if its just loose. If one of the front rotors fell off on the other hand, now theres a reason to get pissy!

no its not the screws, have had help and just had a check again, it seems that the hyosung has a small bit that is on the casing and clicks into the bar to stop it moving like it is, when the alarm was put in they have snapped it off, but still its not my problem, i have tighten the screws and still the same.

Filthy fuckers, not being aware of an issue (as the case may be but you have to wonder!) would be one thing, once they have the money you promised you should have what you paid for. Bet they were over the bridge from you a. Take it back and go somewhere that you'd be happy to have it serviced too. It's a democracy we live in, you get one vote with every dollar you spend! Vote wisely, don't reward the fuckers in the world, vote for someone who deserves it! Just my 2c, have had some bad service in AK too and some stellar service by a few shops. Have found CycleTreads good (don't sell bikes but tyres and stuff) and Spectrum on Barrys Point Road.
They've had a chance, name and shame! (Once you have everything you wnat from them, heheheh, not before!)

Yep your right they are over the other side of the bridge, and would take the casing off myself and have a look but it has an alarm that i just cant disable, and if there was a pin that did go into the bar i would say its not there now otherwise the casing would not fit on again.
So now i have to sit out this weekend and wait till monday and i bet they dont even ring and will have to use a different phone as i think they might have caller id,
All i want to do is go out and re-learn how to ride. :(

That switch casing has a front and back, the front has the bump on it that it sounds like your missing. I don't think you being pissy, if you short-changed them they'd want the rest of the cash, it's not like a scratch that you didn't notice before either! You can't ride your bike and I feel your pain. I'm sure there would be a way to drill a small hole then add a screw so the head would fit in the hole and be better than the plastic factory bit, still not the point tho a? If it comes to that PM me, Me and my mate "random screw jar" will help you out. They all seem to have a bit of play in them but if it's missing that sounds like a problem! I wouldn't advise taping the bar and using the screws to clamp it cos it would probably work but is just asking to have the screw holes strip out. Good luck matey!

Chill dude--I know its a pain in the ass but it is the weekend. The issue you are talking about is almost definitely not life threatening. You have it nailed -the threads have stripped out and the locating pin is busted.
You can still ride the bike. Its not affecting the brakes or throttle or clutch.
If its who I think it is you are dealing with -Call them tomorrow ask fior the owner -BE CALM- tell them it IS an issue with a brand new bike and tell them you want it fixed
You are establishing what may be a long term relationship with these guys and they are a lot more helpfull if you use diplomacy

You have every right to be peeved! This sort of totally sloppy customer service is becoming the norm in our society today. Get your bike back, hopefuly with a few vouchers for accessories to compensate you for your distress. Sit yourself down and write a formal letter to the owners of this business, explain exactly what happened, your contact with their staff and the responses you got. Give them an opportunity to review it for themselves. In my experience nothing will change if you simply whine to your mates about it, but certainly something will if you put it in writting and make them pay attention. Best of luck! Crap that you have had a bumpy start to your new bike, but it will be worth it I am sure. Keep us posted!

As much as I symphatise with you, I would recommend that you learn how to fix things your self. I do not think I have ever got someone to take something back because it had a loose screw... Fit a self tapper, use a tap to make a new thread and fit a new screw, put in some thread mend or whatever is needed to do.
Now being a owner of a bike you will need the skills...
Good Luck.

^ +1 for the above. But you must understand that it's a brand new bike, and sprag has no previous [fixing] experience, so he might not want to fuck around with it. Also, it's on the sellers to sort this shit out especially when things start going wrong when the bike is so 'young'.

The bit isn't a screw on the Hyosung, it is a bump on the front part of the case that the throttle cable is in, once it is snapped off the thing might just twist instead of accellerating and also stick open potentially. Also as it's brand new he shouldn't really have to go tapping holes in anything whether he can/can't/does or doesn't have the tools or know how. They could at the least just made a 2 minute phone call and kissed some ass then he probably wouldn't have started this thread.

Well just got it back and it now has a new casing for the start button etc so i am happy, also got a text from the owner saying how sorry they are for f**king me around, so i am happy, well apart from the alarm that keeps going off but nothing a small bit of cardboard did not fix :)

the same happened on mine... simple fix was to wrap two layers of insulation tape around the bar... hasn't moved since... and yeah it happened after I loosened the switch assembly to adjust it..

Thats good that you are getting it fixed............
My partner took my bike into a shop to get it serviced, when it was picked up they charged me $500 for a full service and said the had checked everything and was running fine. I spewed at the cost
TOok it to get a warrant 2 days afterwards, failed on a loose chain, something the shop said they had tightened.
A week later I was having problems starting it (the main reason it went into the shop in the first place). My partner took it back and they said that they new it wasnt running great when we took it, and thats what we get for buying a cheap import. Wouldnt look at it without charging us more money.
FUCKERS they are a suzuki dealer, they specialise in cheap imports. Wont go there ever again.

Mentioned in the previous posts that a big part of motorcycling is also being able to understanding and perform basic service techniques. Personally I get a fantastic satisfaction from self-servicing my own bike as I am always learning new and exciting things.
It's like building a relationship, the more I learn about my bike, the greater the relationship. And the better the relationship, better the chance of me spotting a problem early.

I love just looking and sussing out how my bike works and where everything is and what it does. Adjusting chain, oil changes, plugs, getting the foot and hand controls just right etc.
The big BUT here is they had already paid for this stuff to be done! Even though I am happy doing all the general stuff I get everything looked at when I have the big service (timing chain tensioners, inside of the heads cleaned etc) done I ask them to check everything else too AND give an itemised receipt. Helps my peice of mind and is great to have if I want to sell it. When a mechanic costs anywhere from $60/h up it's not going to be cheap. I don't think fireliv is complaining at all about the cost, just about not getting what they paid for. If the shop thinks basic maintainance is a prerequisite of bike ownership they 1). should sell bikes to people who can't maintain them or 2). should charge for things they assume the customer has already done thenselves.
I've said it before. $1 = 1 vote, make yourself heard!

Exactly. Because I had just brought it and because of a incident in wellington when my bike wouldnt start on the day we were moving to Christchurch, I decided to get it completely checked out. The cost was a little bit higher than I thought, but I did get a complete 2 page list of what was supposedly done and the fact that I dont know whether that was good bad or otherwise, I accepted the price.
However, you would think that after $500 the chain would at least be the right tightness, and that it would start as they said it would. I paid for it to work. Phoenix tightened the chain for me, and has sorted out an oil problem they overlooked, and its working ok, but like Pancakes said, its not the point.

we all have a kiwi can fix anything attitude, but if the bike is new, becareful what ya do. its easy to lose or have ya warrenty void for doing stupid little things on the bike. (or any new item for that matter) dealers and manufacturers are always looking for a way out.
so when ya think oh i can do it. think is ya new warrenty really worth it?
when it comes down to it, thats what ya paid for, let them sort it out.
