Woke up sat morning and the weather wasn't too bad. A bit cloudy but looking towards the hills and the high country could see that the weather was better than down here on the coast. Time to ride. Put on all the gear and headed towards Timaru up the main road. Thought might as well take one of my favourite ried and go up over the Pareora hill and into cave. From there to Geraldine and back down sh1 to home. Weather was great slight nor wester blowing so it was nice and warm. Got to Cave and things were looking great although still a llittle grey and overcast. Headed to Fairlie with the intention of heading over the hill to Geraldine and back home. Nice day in Fairlie and saw what looked like sunsine towards burkes pass so thought buger it and headed over the pass towards Tekapo and then Twizel Omarama Otemetata and home. It was an exceptional ride with bugger all traffic and not a sign of the road nasties. Short stop in Twizel for a coffee and late bite to eat and then scarpa towards home. For mid winter it was one of those magical days with warm temperatures and not a sign of any frost. The roads were clear and very little grit to speak of. I am blessed to live in this part of the country.A short loo stop in Otematata and then down the road to home. All in all a round trip of 4 1/2 hours of pure bliss. Things couldn't be much better.Would have been nice to have someone else along but what the heck.
Woke today grey overcast and drizzling. Steadily getting worse all day. I guess I just managed to pick the right day!!!!:sunny:

If you stopped at the Otematata town toilets you were 100 meters away from my house.
You would have been most welcome for coffee here! Cheers John.

I wish they wouldn't lock those public toilets in Otematata man. Must have been locked due to frozen pipes or something the other week. But it made for a pretty quick trip through to Kurow for a dump. These was an element of panic there for a while!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot, they are locked for the frosty season and to help protect them against bloody vandals.
Never mind, there is a KB members toilet and coffee stop, less than 100 meters away and it's 27 kilometers closer than Kurow! Cheers John.

High SM, great run over the Pareora hill to Cave last Sept. one Sat. morning. Clear cool conditions, no traffic and the V-strom with about 5000 km on it. First real opportunity to give it a good open up. Memorable ride!
Pulled up in Cave near the post boxes.
Bloke walking back to his farm ute sorting letters said, "hat's a good run over the hill, ain't it?"
"Beauty", I replied. "I enjoyed that!".
Yep you did! I could hear you both enjoying it!".
Great hill, great ride, nice people.
Cheers :scooter:

Must admit it is one of my favourite rides over the hill to Fairlie through the back way to Geraldine or if the weathers kind throught the Mckenzie and home. Pure bliss!!
