What kind of scooter to get for racing?

hi there i got a suzuki gs125 (im a learner) and i want to get into some scooter racing because it looks quite fun and something that i can use to get my skills up on larger bikes and also the price difference between racing bikes and scooters is quite large.

so i was thinking of a street magic or a honda dio or a sj50. what one would be best suited to the application and which one has the most after market support?

what about those chinese scooters how well do they go if you work out all the kinks and what about parts for them are they quite hard to get hold of?

Race your GS125 - PM granma2 , she races one. Otherwise if you're real keen on a scoot, the euro one's are the most competitive.

....is not as cheap as you might think if you do it right. The scooters racing at the Buckets are generally well tuned, bigger, Italian versions that have lots of money invested. You will not find any Dio's that are competitive....

i never thought of racing the gs125 because its not at all fast or brakes hard or anything and also its in quite good condition so would like to keep it that way for when i upgrade when i get my full license.

btw roughly how much would i get for my bike if i sold it?

Buy a crashed scoot thats not bent but cosmetically fucked up, get a expansion pipe, carb, manifold, air cleaner, jets, reeds and modify variator, restriction may also be in cdi and transmission. 10" tyres will never grip like 12", and you need to buy slicks. Beef up the shocks. A disk brake front end bike will brake way better than drum. Some 12' wheeled scooters are around 77kg, but most are close to 100kg. For a no brainer approach, get a street magic, fit drop bars and change peg postion back, as they tend to have too much weight on the rear tyre. Or, bucket racing includes small road bikes! these rock! buy an old school honda MB or CB CG CT, yami RD etc etc etc. Go to the bucket racing a few times and hang around the pits, here you will learn much. Chech out the home made bracketry, exhausts, retro fitted front ends and fittings! Best to do this WITHOUT a race bike of your own...your mind will be open to new ideas, look to the winners! Good luck
