Hey, just got my learners license and starting to explore the wonderful world of biking.. Its certainly good fun in this great weather we are having!
Anyway, I was wondering how many new bikers we have here on the shore and if there are any riding groups, I see there is one on Wednesdays somewhere in Albany originating out west..?.. Anyone do anything on a weekend with a bit more distance?
Ive been out a couple of times with my mate, but trying to keep up with him (on his 1000cc Honda) is gonna lose me my license before it begins.!!!

Welcome to KB
There is a ride on every Thursday (well almost - depends on weather). Called the Auckland Thursday Night Ride - ATNR. :ride:
Meet up at Shell Westgate 6.30pm and we ride some of the back roads ending up at Albany for a pint  and dinner around 8.30pm. No need to worry if you are a learner - we have quite a few who often turn up for the ride.
See HERE (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1303&day=2007-8-2&) for more details and if you want to ride with someone over to Westgate, give me a PM I'm up in Albany..
See you on the road,

Hey Carbacca, your post just reminded me.. I did have a Hyobag Yellow.. for my first few weeks, ended up finding it a little small (even though it was the biggest 250 I could find.!) great bike, but just couldnt live with it long term, sad to see it go though :o(... Though I applied at the time of my learners test with an exemption form (Im 6'5 tall, 105KGs and most bikes feel like riding a pocket pit!) and am upgrading to a DL-650, I test drove one a couple of weeks back and instantly felt heaps more confident from the word go, think I just need the upright ride position.
Still missing my GT250 though..

hm funny to hear that you found the biggest 250 too small for ya. i m 6ft 90-ish kg and its pretty good for me, though at times i wish i was an inch or so taller so its not such hard work for me to back it up sometimes. didnt know about the exemption myself, cos i didnt really need it i guess.
but yeah i am loving my gt250r....

Yeh, I think size wise it was fine.. just I did my back in last year and still gives me a little grief now and again, just wasnt really comfy on the ride position. Didnt feel like it would do me for the long journeys, need to be more upright and better leg position. I would certainly recommend the GT250 to anyone learning though, awesome little(big) bike..!
See you on the roads sometime eh!
