So who is doing the test day coming up before the next VMCC round at Manfeild?
apparently if we ask, they will open up the long track for us to practice on at the test day. So i'm just seeing how many are keen....

They did that last year, was a bit sketchy though as they didn't have the numbers to observe the whole track at any one time

ok, so i had a chat with manfeild people today.....
asked if there was enough interest, if we could do the long track.....
as stated earlier in the thread... they do have an issue with track coverage of marshalls.... they are going to see how many they have and get back to us... i'm wondering if we drum up enough emails and questions to them if they will open it... maybe we can help with a few volunteers????
what do you guys think?

I don't mind taking a couple of sessions out from riding to go hold a flag if that will suffice for them. Too lazy to do all of the sessions anyway.

Is the next round of winter series on the long track? I thought so, if that IS the case having the whole lot on the test day is all the more useful! I, and im sure many others have never been on the back bit!

yup..... round 4 is the long track..... hence us trying to get the test day opened to the full track.....
either that or we might be able to ask VMCC to open the scrub in session for a sighting session too.... but i guess we only have limited time on the day.... and i'd prefer to familiarise myself with the track before having to qualify on it :)

good to hear some of you helping with the likes of marshalling, a huge problem with trying to run race meetings is trying to get the helpers required, the more helpers there are the better it'll be.
great to see good on those of you willing to put a bit back into the sport

1st August 2007, 19:59
My guess is that offers to marshall are only useful in half-day doses. There isn't the time to take people out for 1 or 2 sessions then pick them up again. Best check with Manfield though.

Great!! I thought that the less changing around of marshalls the more track time for those racing. Assuming this is all going to work, what time do we need to be there Friday morning? We're leaving Auck after work on Thursday, stopping in Taupo, then the rest of the way in the morning...... And Duckaddict is coming with me, so hopefully he will volunteer to partner Luke!

From the horses mouth so to speak:
"If we have enough volunteers on the day, we probably could run on the full 4.5km circuit, but when we talk volunteers they need to A) be familiar with Manfeild B) able to use a 2 way radio C) ability to access a situation descriptively yet calmly.
If we had enough ‘man power’ then we would be happy to run the motorcycles on the long circuit. Would need to know prior to the test day if people were available to help.
Hope this helps
Steph"
Which matches exactly what you said Nicki. No indication there though of how many they would require.
Toast
2nd August 2007, 15:09
I just called this Steph lady.
She said that they need 4-5 volunteers (on top of their regular staff) if the long track is to be used.
So, if we have 8 of us who can give up half a day to hold a flag and a radio, and watch out for their fellow muppets, we'd be sweet.
Ofcourse less are needed if anyone can convince their girlfriend/boyfriend to stand out in the cold all day and watch bikes fly around the track (I'm not even gonna bother asking).
So there you have it. I'll happily give up half of my test day.
Who else can commit to providing help on the day?
Clivoris
2nd August 2007, 18:05

We will be making custom made earplugs at the track on Aug 18th for those riders south (and north) of Taupo who have been 'wanting' (and needing) them. Stop the wind noise for $65 per pair, or for $220 we can wire the plugs for your mp3s etc. At this time we have no events to attend south of Turangi (the GC) until the new year, so if you're looking for comfortable, reliable, reusable earplugs to fit your ears only, meet with us at Manfeild. Cheers Sue

He's cheating anyway, from the way it out-drags mine and then amount of juice it consumes I think he's stuffed a VFR750 motor into that wee frame.
I washed my bike today. That's an annual event for me. Sod carbon fibre, I reckon it lost a couple of kilo's of dirt and grease.

SO HERE'S THE DEAL:
I called Manfeild and discussed the 2 options we have...
1: 8 volunteers work a half day each. We run the full track all day. Volunteers get special half day rate if they want to ride the other half.
2: 4 volunteers work the PM only. We run short track in the morning, full track in the afternoon. Same hafl day rate for volunteers for he morning.
My ideal is that we run the long track all day. I really appreciate all the volunteers who have put their hands up. I will call Manfeild Tuesday to confirm what we have organised. Please post your choice of the above and if you are a volunteer, please confirm if you are happy to do the PM or AM so I can give your names to the organisers.

Hi all,
I have just received a request from Manfield to post a notice here. They have today realised that the extension has already been booked for friday morning. This means that it will only be available during the afternoon. Nicksta, she did say that she has been trying to get hold of you. I don't know what this will mean for those of us volunteering. Personally, I will want time on the long track rather than flag marshalling, But I am bringing Str8jacket up now and she can shave her head and stand in for me.
Steph from Manfield was extremely apologetic about how this has gone down.

Hi All,
have just been advised my manfeild that the 1.5km extension is booked for the morning! So they will be running the Short track in the AM and long track for PM only. This will be from lunch (1pm ish) on.
If you are happy to volunteer the PM, please see the park people at lunch time. I wont be there first thing, but definately by lunchtime.
thank you all for your help!
**EDIT: thanks Clivoris, was at physio :( got the message from Steve tho...

It was quite fun marshalling, especially from the hairpin... where I did one session. Great view not only of that corner but the rest of the track as well. Luckily, apart from one bird kill, there were no incidents for us to deal with.... even in the damp conditions... thanks to you guys!!
So if you can volunteer for the next one, it really is worthwhile!
