I like the bit at the end when the commentator is disgusted with the guy picking his nose! Like it's reinforcing the reason they are there in the first place

I disagree.... what context was it in? On their way to a fire fight? Are they just being bastards?

We don't know... from the footage - we just don't know. And till we know their motives, how is it possible to judge their actions.

Swap the humvie for an Ambulance on the way to a 5 car accident where 10 people laying dying or bleeding. Suddenly it seems they're not being pushy enough...

i have seen that vid before (not on here tho), the reason for driving like that i have been told is (by an ex marine) if they just went with the traffic flow then it is quite likely that would make tham an easier target for bombers etc, so they have to keep moving at a good pace and not stop for anything!

- The fact is that invading Iraq had NOTHING to do with the war on Terror, and I can prove this.

- If New Zealand was invaded by a race of people with crazy beliefs, say, the Muslims, then I would fight back using the weapons I HAVE AVAILABLE.

- Oh, and you know those IEDs and VBIEDS? They use m1984 109mm Howitzer shells as the primary explosive in many cases, which the US of A sold to them in post 1984.

If anyone actually wants to get an education as to some of the reasons why America isn't so popular in the middle east, here's a good *factual* source.

<a href="http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/MiddleEast/Iraq.asp">The current Iraq situation</a>
- <a href="http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/MiddleEast/Iraq/DuringSanctions.asp">Sanctions and military action against Iraq during the period following the Gulf war</a>
- <a href="http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/MiddleEast/Iraq/Buildup.asp">US/UK Buildup for War on Iraq</a>
- <a href="http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/MiddleEast/Iraq/PostWar.asp">Iraq—2003 onwards; War, Aftermath and Post-Saddam</a>

<a href="http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/MiddleEast/Resources.asp#AdividedpeopleTheWestssupportfordict atorsandmonarchiesoverdemocracies">How the west controls Resources; Supporting Dictators and the Rise of Terrorism</a>

Of course there are people with differing opinions and experiences, they're free feel how they like. But unjustifiably and illogically exacting those feelings is wrong, whether they're the "good guys", or the "bad guys".

I sometimes ask Americans if the Russians did a good thing going into Afganistan in 1979, "They went to eliminate the terrorist threat". To which many say "Yeah, it was a great idea!" - Too bad their own American government was supporting the islamic "terrorists" back then, just shows how easy it is to manipulate opinions with loaded words I guess.

//edit: The dudes in the Hummer are just doing their jobs - if you don't want to get hit get the hell outa the way. At least it means good business for the Iraqi pannelbeaters!

you have a good point MDU. The only question I have is to they have cameras in all there hummers or was it just a soldier shooting his own action flick or is it some sort of driver training video? Does any ex-soldiers know if these hummers have onboard cameras?

I always wonder why people post these things on youtube because with out the full story people are left to their imaginations.

Yeah I dunno. I imagine they'd have cameras everywhere for intel if nothing else.

I do like the other news sources though - again... to get the other side of the story. Amasing how one side sounds so radically different from the other.

It's hard to tell if Iraqi drivers are better or worse than kiwis.
On one issue, they are the same - complete inability to use rear vision mirrors.

A mate in Afganistan is working security. Nothing slower than 100Mph and straddling the white line to keep away from roadside bombs.

The origional motive was weapons of mass destruction followed closely by links to terrorist organisation.
No evidence of that yet, but a lot of people have died in the process. Difficult not to judge their actions in the light of so many unfounded excuses.

The point is tho' no matter what the reason is for driving like this, they are doing it in someone elses country. Bound to cause massive resentment. There will be compassionate soldiers amongst them, but they will always be seen as outsiders at best.

I heard that the Americans are often forced to destroy unusually placed or abandoned cars to stop them from getting nicked by the insurgents. I mean, even if you're going to blow yourself up I still think your missus will have something against you fragging her Camry.

They also get the MPs to ride around and burn roadkill, those crafty Resistance fighters will put IEDs in the strangest places ;s.

I think it might have more to do with how involved and publicised the US is in the world stage. Everything everywhere has its share of dropkicks. Because the US is so involved it just gets publicised. If you try to say that whatever organisation you belong to doesnt have its share of plonkers your kidding yourself.

Dare I get involved again... perhaps it's because "Yanks" al all judged by the televised actions of a few (and again I raise the liklihood the initial video clip was shot and presented out of context).

Just like Russians are commy bastards, and Jews are all lying theiving low lifes. Propoganda's a wonderful thing...

I have spent time in the States and I think north Americans are awesome people, I have also spent a bit of time in the Middle East (every country except Iraq, Have been to Iran) and I think they are awesome people.
Of all the countries I have been to (a hell of alot) I have never felt safer than I was in the middle east (for the most part Saudi being the exception), the people are incredible and to be honest go way above what I would ever expect from a westerner the level of hospitality is amazing they go out of their way to make you comfortable and welcome...............here is the point, people on this planet speak in generalisations to often in a unqualified manner. At the end of the day people like you and me are the being caught up in a struggle due to politics and the control of resourses, its not fair that a minority can control so many and cause so much suffering.............but welcome to the world we live in I guess, In saying that in my mind the USA has alot to answer for in relation to its political intervention in the middle east, I find it disgraceful actually, however its wrong to hate americans, hate those in the power and if you have to hate someone point the finger at the idiot in charge namely bush !! or infact Hate the idiot in charge of Iran, or the dead idiot that ran Iraq..........hate those people they are the terrorists, the rest are blinded by propaganda or are simply victims in a stupid dollar driven agenda of one sought or another.

Very well put Quasi. I also have spent a short time in the middle east, some not so good, mostly a good experience. Unfortunately, for your average Iraqi, their 1st impression of their invaders is going to be formed by GW Bush, and then by their soldiers. A less than ideal situation. Kind of the same as the yanks thinking that all middle eastern people are terrorists. It is a NO win situation people and despite what people say about Aunty Helen, at least she didn't get sucked into sending our forces there. I understand fully the whole driving through traffic and evading the threat of terror from the Army standpoint, but the locals suffer from exactly that. They don't have the privilege of travel, or seeing how westerners really live. They don't understand how you can live in a non religious based govt. All they see is the "infidel" coming in and taking charge. Who wouldn't hate that? I feel sorry for them and all the suckers who have been ordered there, and can offer no solution to the problem. That's war isn't it?
