"BERLIN - Radical environmentalists in Germany have declared war on sport utility vehicles and luxury cars, deflating the tyres of more than 80 fuel-guzzlers in less than a week, a Berlin police spokesman said.
In night-time raids the environmentalists targeted 4x4 SUVs and large luxury vehicles across Berlin, leaving hand-written notes for their owners which pointed to the link between carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and global warming.
Although there were differences in the way the tyres were deflated - some were slashed but others simply had the air let out of them - investigators assume that one group is behind the campaign, the spokesman said.
The police believe the group may be linked to international organisations such as the "World Carfree Network", which encourages direct action in its quarterly magazine Carbusters published in Prague.
Similar groups in France and Belgium have been known to smear cars with manure."
That's just wrong, you don't touch another man's machine (well unless they really had it coming)
Why don't they have the balls to put their group's name on the notes?
If they believe in their cause so much, they wouldn't mind if a few anger car owners knew who they were.

I have to admit - it makes me stop and think for a bit... about personal transport. Their MO leaves a bit to be desired though

CO2 has very little to do with Global warming. Sulphuric Acid solution aerosols (vented from volcanoes. Far more reflective than C02 and they sit right at the top of the Troposphere for decades after a major eruption) and H20 are the biggest culprits.

Don't forget too, that Globular Yawning is not even proven - it's a hypothesis that's been promulgated as fact by The Media.
Oh - and I thought it was now "Global Climate Change as a result of mankind's activities".

Well I wouldn't say that. I don't mind people driving SUV's, as long as it's not 2 lanes wide etc.
If we banned SUVs on the road, bikes would be right after them.

Finding your car with no air in its tyres in the morning would be incredibly annoying, but slashing tyres? Not on. Legislate SUVs from city roads instead. :P

Why do you despise those who care about the environment?
Granted this group of people have lost the plot.

I don't mind if they want to care, but they leave me alone please.

Do the sums,( and assuming burning fossils fuels is a bad thing to do) the difference between an SUV and a small car is not as significant as useage. Choosing to live a great distance from where you work and driving a small car will use more fuel than the occasional use of a SUV.
So called environmentally aware people are often those who every weekend will drive large distances to a concert, a bicyle riding event and to pick up a supply of organic vegs. Years ago some figures were published that showed that fuel burnt to travel to horse racing events was vastly more the that for motor racing events including the fuel used on the track.
It is the distance travelled that contributes most to fuel use not the size of vehicle.

Hmmmmm...... these so-called Greenies are fuckwits. How kind is it to the environment increasing the number of tyres that have to be disposed of?

I agree Indy. This whole global warming bizzo is a beat up. The earth MAY be warming up, but not by our doing. I can see $billions$ being spent on this.:sunny::sweatdrop

let the earth warm up i say!
we have had ice ages, so why not a "hot age" or summit like that?
what would we call the opposite to an ice age? would it be "hot age"? "heat age"? "burn age"?

Interglacial.
And in fact, they are relatively few and of short duration, compared to the ice ages, so you're quite right. We should enjoy this comparative warmth while we can.
The 4x4s in Germany are probably some of the more cleaner running ones anyway. Bet they're driving around in Kombis or something spewing out smoke anyway

He reckons Greenpeace are a bunch of cocks too.

One of the major supporters of Anti-global warming is actually one of the fonders of Greenpeace. He left a few years ago after seeing how far they had strayed from the founding ideals.

Im all in favour.
Im not greenpeace lover or into any of that bullshit.
but
there is something about seeing mums cloggin up the roads in a big fuck off suv just to take the kids to school and to do the shopping...
Plus we are their number one target when they decide to venture off their own side of the road.

haha if you had been here (chilliwack,Vancouver) a couple of weeks ago when we had just hit 38.8 degrees. I doubt you'd say that. I thought I could handle heat but when your staying in a three storey townhouse with no air-con and heat rises it doesn't make for much fun.
Anyway back to the thread touching other people vehicles is pretty gutless.

A few years back there was this group going around putting these stickers on 4x4s basically saying piss off the roads. This was when I was driving a lifted Isuzu Trooper with big fuck off tyres and bars. I had my own sticker on it saying
"You know what happings when you touch another mans wife?
Call the ambulance before you touch mine!!"
never had any trouble with it. What gets me is that truck had a 2.6 four in it, in a truck a similer weight to a falcon or commadore with a 5-6 V8. I've always been considerate to bikers while in a cage because I'm often busy checking out the bike as soon as I see it.

At least they are doing something pro active about a cause they believe in, and I bet it does get some SUV's off the road. (and nobody really suffers when that happens).
Better than just posting on a forum making threats about this and that.

I hate those huge big gas guzzlers anyway, but will reserve my views on climate change, etc until after next Wednesday - that's when I will be attending a seminar on climate change and sustainability. What's the bet I'll be just as confused then?
