Bugger mate. I always do a background check before I buy any vehicle (https://www.vir.co.nz/). I hope for ya that it isn't a stolen bike or a written-off bike resurrected. Happen to Frosty. He brought the a VFR750 as a newly imported bike only to find out that it was my written-off VFR (my insurance wrote it off after I had dropped it unloading it off my Ute) with new plates on it (I recognised it as soon as I saw it in his garage).

I take it that the bike had been put through the system and was now fully legal again?

I take it that the bike had been put through the system and was now fully legal again? If ya referring to my old VFR, it never was illegal. The seller had brought it from auction as a written-off bike legally. Repaired it, re-reg'ed it, and (here's the dodgey bit) sold it on as a new import (naughty, naughty). Had I not seen it in Frosty's garage he would have never known otherwise. A VIR would have shown up that it had been written-off though.
Awesome ta hear ya found the previous owner dino3310:Punk:

But if I ever was to do it, then: Find a similar bike that is still in the system, transfer the numbers to your bike and you are away. Normally you can buy the papers from someone who has a damaged bike or someone who is stripping a bike for one reason or another.
Or you could import a frame and then you would have the customs papers.
But as I have never done this it is obviously just speculation...
And I assume you do not know anyone in USA? Well, I do actually and I think that I could convince him to help you here if you really wanted.

i've had a few private messages suggesting the same thing,i'm gonna hunt around for a frame through wreckers and a few adds,if no success i'll put her up for sale as a dirt bike and see how it goes, might be able to sell her for enough for a decent deposit, will just sit on it for a couple of weeks and see how it goes, thanks for the offer i will keep that in mind.

U.S vinn plate, LTNZ said chassis number matchess customs entry in 1999.
thats the only record of it they have. its the compliance outfit saying i gotta
have import papers and change of owner ship from U.S,
personally i cant see a problem with it ,its only a number on the frame, its not stolen ,it can be made road worthy ,just the compliance place and there bloody rules.
