Was looking at Trade Me for wrecks with $1 reserve and saw something from Star Insurance about re-registering wrecks after being damaged

See if this helps: http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/factsheets/09.html

Or perhaps here: http://www.lvvta.org.nz/ U can always give one of them a call and I am sure they will help you in the right direction.

Good Luck!

Why was it written off in the first place? If cosmetic (fairings etc) there should be no problem...just need revinning like a new bike. But if there was substantial frame damage, then that will need recertifying for welds etc

hi, thanks for the info 'gumpy gnome', got hold of the guy from the trade me auction of star insurance. he's over in hamilton. Unfortunalty it's only cosmetic, but he has emailed me the ltnz wording that does say "structural or panel damage", so it needs one. sounds easy though.
and thanks to ' Conquiztador' that info was helpful too.
thanks guys, now all i need is a right hand mirror!

Fairings aren't panels - they're a streamlining and cosmetic measure.

Richard I feel you are aproaching this question from the wrong angle.
If the bike has been deregistered you need to establish WHY it was deregistered.2 senarios-Unensured bike owner crashes munting the fairings n stuff. Cant afford to fix it ,cant get wof so lets the rego lapse.
In that case you MAY be able to simply bung it through for revinning or worse case have togeta brake cert.
The second option is the bike was deregistered by his insurance company due to STRUCTURAL damage.
In that case you have a bit more work to do.The bike needs an engineers certificate to show it is structurally sound and you need a brake cert BEFORE you can get it revinned
If you have the old REGO number it would pay you to contact the LTSA and ask them the specific procedure needed for THIS bike

hi guys, thanks again, all good info. contacted ltsa this morning and a 308 cert is the 'default option'. and yes i do need a brake cert also. loaded bike up and droppped it off, and he can do a brake cert at same time! so one less trip required! he's also got a mate who can put a new glass in the mirror, so tomorrow it will be all done!
then testing station, and on the road!(prob another week or so away)
anyone know where the best place to buy a good helmet is in hamilton, maybe a arai or shoei???
thanks to all those that helped
