I`ll have a look see if i can find it... Do you think its a bit low on comp? its easy enough to do the piston and ring or even pull the chamber off and have a look at the piston through the port.

I think the comp is ok, but as the bike has done 100hr(ish) I wouldn't mind checking it. And I wouldn't know if it needs doing just by looking at it. My car is causing a few money probs at the mo so don't really want to be buying piston kits if I can help it. Cheers

its hard to tell, really you need to use the same one when it is new & use it as a gauge to wear.

Also push in gauges are pants.
Technique is open throttle & kick as hard & fast as you can a bunch of times until stops going up else get low reading.

My EC200 was reading 196 on my gauge with 1 gasket removed & new piston (that it didn't need) 195 after raising the compression slightly. Shows how accurate the gauge (german) isn't. Or rather the test.

These readings will be higher than yours most likely as not stock so will tell you little about your bike even if you had the same gauge.

Hard to compare readings on different bikes, raising the ex port will lower the comp reading so not a really good test.

GG pistons & rings wear very little if you use decent oil. I bought a replacement & then found the rings were as new spec,- like new.

PS they use Wiseco pistons so cheaper to buy that way than as GG genuine.

One more thing Dave, do you know what the sag measurements for the bike should be (trail riding)?

And does anyone know of a good website for explaining suspension set-up?

What year is yours?

Mine is an 02 with WP, here is a excerpt from some GG website

WP USD
Compression (underneath) - all the way in and out 10-15 clicks
Rebound (on top) - all the way in and out 10-12 clicks
Fork Oil - 5 wt. - 140 mm of air space with no spring (fully compressed and bleed properly)

Rear Shock - Both compression (top reservoir) and rebound adjustment are to be set at - all the way out 16 - 18 clicks.

Note: gas Gas Enduro bikes perform best with loads of sag on the rear end. Don't set up the bike with the normal 90 - 100 mm of sag rule. We simply work on about 4 inches of sag at the back end when the bike is off the stand.

Consequently I set mine up with a heap of sag, but then I made some longer dogarms (or rather modified the originals) this helped calm it down & didn't need as much sag.

The WPs & esp the Marzoccs respond to a revalve, I sent mine to Linton at Dirt Action in chch even though I am wgtn, the transformation is worth every (very reasonable) cent. He spends a lot of time riding & testing GG suspension so knows it well.

The std forks (both WP & Mz) have waaay too much highspeed comp so they feel harsh & tyres slip of tree roots. They are both good forks, just need fettling. Rear linkages need maintenance to keep them moving smoothly.

oh yeah, look here gasgasrider.org (http://www.gasgasrider.org/)

oh & here fir a manual, there are others on other GG sites

Sweet, thanks very much again. Just another question, I'm runnin fully synth oil at 40-1 as last owner did, but the manual states 50-1. What are you running? Also any idea where is best to get the wiseco pistons, and can you remember how much you paid?

Thanks

I run 40-1, it is Spanish after all.

erm I'm struggling to remember, think it may have been gofasters.com (http://www.gofasters.com./) - if I have a rememory I'll post it.
