Question: How do you tell the difference between a New Zealand Police Officer, An Australian Police Officer and an American Police Officer?

Answer: Pose the following question:

"You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges.

You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

What do you do?

NZ POLICE OFFICER'S Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 1-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
If I raise my gun and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed when he falls over running away, knocks his head and kills himself?
If I shoot him, and lose the court case.
Does he have the opportunity to sue me, cost me my job, my credibility and I will lose my family home? .

You are carrying a Glock .40...

Nuh-uh. An NZ cop would have a 9mm.

Bugger, beat me to it! (But at least I looked first before reposting!)

I thought NZ cops used Glocks too?

I thought NZ cops used Glocks too?

They do. Chambered for 9mm Parabellum, not .40 S&W.

The real question is, of course, whether one is professional enough (http://youtube.com/watch?v=S7ufT_6Kgy0) to carry the famous GLOCK FAWDY.

(Glock fans know why it's funny to talk about a 'Glock 40'... guess that's a special DEA-only model, eh?)

Excuse me? I don't know what you mean by this - I meant I was going to post this but did a search and found you already had. If you think I was implying YOU had made a repost, you're wrong.

Oh I'm comfortable with wrong, (plenty of practice an' all that), but I figured that's what you meant. Was just indulging in a wee gloat about getting in first for once

Y'see, you can joke about this but when push came to shove the NZ police had no problem shooting Graham Burton - and doing it with sufficient skill to wound him and leave the sorry arse bastard alive. The "bang" scenario also leads to mental patients who've forgotten/lost their medication ending up in a pool of blood. Not clever.

I think we've (they've) got it just about right here.

The above could be in NZ with the 9mm - but there would be another five bangs in each string.

And a comment "These puny 9mm Hydrashocks don't really do the trick, do they? Time we moved to a 10mm or maybe a 40".

Dave

incorrect stroy, correct stroy follows,

burton goes for a run up waiwhetu firebreak, with his shot gun, good duck hunting up there like, shoots a guy he thingks was a cop who was out with his daughter, the kind gentlemanly type he is realises father is in pain from lethal shutgun rounds, so does the hunter things and finishees him off, daughter runs away, comes down firebreak to wainui hill car park, cops waiting, but mumble bumble and fumble there assualt weapons, burton gets hold of them, cops fire a gazillion shots and manage to hit hsi leg,

nothing about being humane not killing him so he could stand trial etc, cops arent best shots under stress

when a cop has there gun out, its time to RUN AWA,Y subm,it lay down your weapons or take some other action, before they kill you,

they shoot to kill. trained to do it. bad shots, shit guns, center of mass biggest target, even in green new zealand,
