View Full Version : Otago: Birthday Celebration
Virago
2nd August 2007, 17:37
As was mentioned in the Dunedin Rides thread, we have a great reason for another get-together, with Delphinus celebrating his twenty-first birthday next week.
How about meeting up for a pub meal somewhere? If it can be combined with a weekend ride, even better.
If you're keen, indicate your preference in the poll, regarding date and venue. It's a multi-choice poll, so vote for as many as you like.
Date - a couple of members have already indicated that Saturday 11 August is not an option, so I've left that date out.
Obviously Mr Delphinus himself will have a casting vote, as we need the guest-of-honour!

That does raise an interesting question - are we talking a night thing or lunch thing?? I would personally prefer the night option but I may be able to make it to a day time one.

OK then I've voted on that basis - let us know if that plan changes.
Now we have to plan some of those "rite of passage" rituals --- now just where do I get another goat from, I'm sure theres an old pair of gumboots around here, does anyone work for Fulton Hogan's road making division and able to get some of that black sticky stuff???????

My very first day as a motorbike owner! I was being so super cautious. I find myself riding so much differently now.
What do cage drivers think of lane splitting I wonder? I only do it when its not interfering with them, but I saw some little cock on a scooter today aggressively getting in front of cars and turning in front of them, that shit really pisses me off.

I agree and it also pisses me off - the other thing that pisses me off is seeing bikes Pass on the left, or, bikes passing me on the left when riding in groups - when you hear someone coming its natural to pull slightly to the left to let them through, I did this one day but the guy was coming up the left side and had to ride the outside white line. We had a wee discussion later but he actually raised it as being dangerous and that he'd had a shock so that was good.
I saw a bike leaving Dunedin last weekend or the one b4 - an MT01 passed a car on the left at the bottom of Saddle Hill heading South - just freaking stupid.
Nuff of that - are the Dunedin biker girls having their girls night out tonight??? AND did they get Delphinus booked for a performance????

Okay, the poll is closed - another victory for democracy.
Popular choice is next Sunday evening (12 August), with the the venue to be Waihola. If anyone has objections, speak now or forever hold your peace...
Weather permitting, some may want to ride, so I suggest an early meal (around 6.00 - 6.30ish). This could work in with an afternoon ride.
I suggest that we go on this date regardless of weather. Mutley and I would be happy to take our cages, if anyone wants a sober driver from Dunedin.
So - Waihola pub is it? I'll contact them later in the week to let them know.
Free2B, please be assured that no harm will come to either the goat or the cucumber...

Okay, just phoned the Waihola Tavern and told them to expect a loud and unruly mob at 6ish on Sunday. They are putting on extra security staff, and some feed for the goat.
I'm hoping that Mutley and I will be okay for the outing, we've both had the nasty lurgy that's going around. Mutley lost her voice altogether today, it's been delightfully peaceful all day... . Seriously though, it's quite a nasty virus, so we don't want to be passing it on. On that basis, I may have to get Ruralman to do some of the more "intimate" parts of the ceremony...

Our offer still stands for anyone wanting transport (although our cage could be more of a mobile snot bucket...). No takers???? :innocent:
Okay, I had a call from the Waihola Tavern today, asking that we make it 6.30 rather than 6.00 - apparently they have a bus tour in for 5.00 which should be out by 6.30. There's always the bar for the early arrivals - get the first round lined up, okay?

The weather forecast is bloody awful for later tomorrow, so Mutley and I will definitely be caging. I'm well on the mend now, and Mutley definitely has her voice back, but she's still exploding snot in all directions today, so the cage would be the wisest option.

Just to resurrect this birthday thread, the hot topic at the moment is the fifth birthday of KiwiBiker in October, with the plan of having simultaneous parties across NZ.
So far, there's celebrations being organised in the "three main centres", and we're of course invited to attend. It looks like SpankMe will be in Christchurch for the day.
Two options - we could make a group trip to Christchurch to join in, or we could do our thing here in the south.
My preference, we show 'em all how strong the KB spirit is in the south, and put on our own celebration to rival the rest.
