View Full Version : You Can't Ride That Bike For S*$@, Mate.

:shit:
When I was living in Wellington last year, me and a mate (he was on a RGV150) went for a thrash up to the Hutt, and along the way we met a couple of dudes on a RGV150 and a ZXR400. So we had a lil race. I was bloody surprised that the dude on the RGV had no riding skills what so ever and he only started to lane split when I did. Faring for his, I slowed down and backed off, but he came up beside me and was tormenting me. Lets just say. To get away from him, I “halled arse” and proceeded to give him the one finger salute.. :o
I was just wondering if you dudes have ever seen a biker on the road, which in no way should have ever fathom that they should stride a bike

It's times like that when you need to take the person aside and have a quiet word... something like...
"Nothing personal - and you can take or leave this - but my suggestion is that you go to a riding school or get some training on riding that thing. From what I've seen today, you are going to lose control of that thing sometime soon.
It costs a lot, and it hurts.
I don't want to see that happen, and I'm sure you don't either.
Just my opinion"

I've seen someone in fulll race leathers tanking it on a little scooter down the motorway at about 50ks... I'm assuming it was a loaner from the bikeshop (heh heh, those bikeshop guys, what a sense of humour eh ?)... or he\she could have just been insane.

I was riding up north a few years ago on the old xj600, not too fast a bike but caught up to a harley (you know where this is going) anyway, I thought "Ill just sit behind him and cruz (he was on about 110-120) after a few minuits he noticed me there and started to pick up speed. At about 150-160 I thought "this munter is going to kill himself", he was draging all sorts of bits on the road making an impressive display. I should have just slowed down but I was alot younger then and for some strange reason he pissed me off so I nailed the poor old yamy past. Should have given him the finger tho, but didnt want some patched dudes turning up at my grandmothers house.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there, Roo.
Perhaps he only got the bike a week ago after getting his 6L.
In that case, of *course* he couldn't ride it very well. What do you expect? And he was probably 16, or summat. Not too likely to be laid back in his riding approach while he acquired control skills.
Shame on you for baiting him.

Maybe It's just a boys thing that girls don't get?
Are men that stupid that they have to race everyone they see on a bike, even though they don't know how to ride?
and IF he just got his learners, he had not displayed L plate.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and backed off.
Anywho, it's not like I was running over Ducklings. :Pokey:

I've seen that kind of thing happen before and there aint much ya can do bout it. Best idea is to take it a bit easier so that they can follow your line, and if you've got a good line they might learn a thing or 2

i have seen a guy on a vtr1000 would couldn't even pull off without doing that running sorta wobbly start. Shit i did that the first time i sat on a bike but i then got my balance and never did it again. But on a VTR!!!!! not only this but he did it coming out of a gas staation right in front of a car that had to put on the piks pretty quickly. Idiots. :2guns: midlife crisis guys

Hey Johnno whatcha gonna do 25 years from now when you have your own mid-life crisis?? The good thing is, by then you won't feel any embarrassment when people laugh at you. If they think you look ridiculous, that's their problem!

Learner being set a bad example?
learner perhaps.... but the example is surely one being set of 'this is what a bike can do if handled properly'... not 'this is what you're capable of doing, so get on with it'
I routinely filter (at various speeds!) past guys on small cc bikes on my morning commute who are obviously getting into motorcycling and aren't keen on lane splitting yet. I have absolutely no problem with that and if I never come up behind them while they're trtying to filter, thats quite alright by me too. I'd much rather they just did their own thing at their own pace that they were comfortable with.
To blame NC30_chick for learners too stupid to know that they're a learner with limited skills is a bit daft really.
Having said that, the only bikes I wait for in traffic are
a) those I know riding with me
b) those that i can tell are switched on lane splitters capable of providing some pre-work entertainment!
J- where are all the nutter lane splitters on the southern in the mornings? The best bloke I've had the pleasure of playing 'catch me if you can' with was on a trumpy triple but that was only once :(

:shit: ...I was just wondering if you dudes have ever seen a biker on the road, which in no way should have ever fathom that they should stride a bikeYeah I've seen a number of such riders over the years - you can just tell by their 'lines' into corners and bends and their use of excessive braking.
One such guy I observed a few months ago down by the Mission Bay waterfront on a Daytona T95 900cc (of course I saw and heard him because those bikes are choice). I decided to follow (bait) him and he took off as though it was a race! If it was not for his repeated dangerous manoeuvres passing cars on absolute blind corners and wobbling all over the place (I was very surprised he didn't crash), I would have quite enjoyed riding behind him...but like you NC30 I backed off and let him go. I caught up to him at the lights further up and leaned over and asked him if it was his bike, to which he replied "nah it's a mates"!

Dunno. I never ply the Southern on weekdays.
I can still (proudly?) state that nobody has ever given me difficulty in the filtering game, you know.
My tale of the bike courier on a ZXR400 shaking his head and tapping the side of his helmet when he rode past me later has been told before, I think.
Filtering is the one situation where the poor little FXR isn't limited by lack of ponies.

Geez guys you seem to be taking this all a bit too seriously. Just ride at your own pace or race if you want to. I'd like to think that all other riders, drivers etc are impressed with my God-like riding abilities, but they probably think I'm a prat when I lane split, take off from the lights, pick the fast line.
Besides even the best riders have shit days or blonde moments. Mind you there are some truly awful riders/drivers out there, so stay awake.
Now what was I bleating on about......

The basic rule for blokes is 'If we cant shag it - then we kill it'.
So put a bloke on a bike behind a chick and you have basically someone trying to kill themselves in an attempt to catch something they'd like to shag :ride:

You just described my manner of biking :D, I just seem to have lost it after my crash a few months ago. I'm going to stick on some new tyres so I'll have more than a slick at the rear. Maybe they will inspire some confidence?

Or you could find yourself a nice twisty bit of road, learn it in your own time, thus gaining confidence in yourself with out trying to stay with a better rider.Trying to keep up with better riders gets people in the shit like nothing else will.
Think about this, one or two corner gap and your pushing to keep up and out of your element, then you find the gravel and your already going to fast. It's happened to a few other KBers already.
Find your limits on a road you know, then work on improving them, don,t ever follow another rider beyond your own comfort zone.

Fully agree with what you say here, but in my post I said "good riders" not "better" riders. A good rider could be someone at/near your same skill level - that was where I was coming from. :bleh:
