View Full Version : A funny thing happened on the way to work this morning.,...

Some guy (of a foreign nationality) with a vehicle full of people (of a similar appearing nationality) in a Range Rover decided to "take me on" coming down the NW motorway in Auckland this morning.

Now if I understand correctly the power to weight ratio of the RF900 I was sitting on is just a tad higher than that of the Range Rover, and though my top speed is similar to the Range Rover it should be pointed out that I'm talking the top speed of my bike in 2ND GEAR. :2guns:

So after I finished laughing I emailed a guy here at work (with a Range Rover) and wondered what he thought - no response to date!

I should point out there was absolutely no accelration on my part, actually staying near the speed limit... but oh it were tempting!

Anyone sighting BBQ851, British Racing Green Range Rover, please feel free to be smug, know the guy is an idiot and point and laugh

Don't be too smug - if the Rangie decided he wants the bit of ground you're riding on, he's going to have it.

Oh agreed entirely and I have the utmost respect for all other road users for that reason... it was the "point and squirt" approach that he took that made me laugh

Gotcha (and I'm not quite sure I wanted to know - but thanks LOL)

Does his profile mention that he's an IDIOT? If not, please feel free to add that. I think he deserves it

The LTSA doesn't record those details, but perhaps they should...

Nope.

Vehicle registration details are public-domain data. If you don't like it, don't register a vehicle.

It's fair enough to expect that other road users can identify me when I'm out in public controlling two tons of steel travelling at a hundred kilometers an hour with eighty litres of incendiary chemicals packed underneath it.

I thought you had to pay $25 a time (http://www.motorweb.co.nz/reference/e2f93d0f) for that sort of information:

Nope. A 'current owner' check on motochek.co.nz (which I just did) is only $2, 20 cents (I think) if you don't mind waiting overnight for the query to run. A full ownership history is a few dollars extra. Anyone can get a motochek account, you just need to sign a direct debit form and post it back so they can bill you each month.

I just got an account because I figured it would come in handy...

he probably saw you and decided im gonna see what i can get out of this thing. i probably would just for a laugh, corse not on a motrway, somewhere i could find the limits of the vehicle not just the top speed. i cracked up reading this, not about a range rover vs a bike but a range rover bein thrashed at all. he he

Yes I was worried by the guy actually... just a nutter. It reminds me of a scene from smokey and the bandit.

The cop car has it floored and is roaring along the freeway, alongside Bandit in the Trans Am, who also has it floored and it's revving it's guts out. The cop is thinking he has the measure of this guy, and Bandit waves "bye bye" changes up a gear and just accelerates away...

Tacky movie (in hindsight) but I loved that scene.
