Alright, so i've arranged with my olds to do the Outward Bound 21 day 'classic' course for my 21st birthday. The total cost is $3375 plus the extra clothing items i dont already have, and travel too and from. The course starts in early November, which gives me just under three months to come up with the money.

Originally I was going to pay $1000 and my parents were going to pay the rest. Now i owe my parents a bit of money for loans on bikes etc, and i said to the old man that if i could come up with all the money myself, would he knock $3k off of my debt instead... he said yes.

So, i now need to save $1k a month to make the goal. That means about $280 a week. I can comfortably save $100 a week from my current income, but im obviously going to need to find a way to make $180 a week on top of that, if not more.

The Outward Bound website suggests asking for donations from workmates, friends, and extended family members, but thats not really my style. I am however willing to work for a fair price in order to raise the money.

If you know of anyone that has a part-time job available on the North Shore either on weekends or after 6pm on weekdays please let me know...

Otherwise, I am happy to clean bikes/cars, mow lawns, chop firewood, do waterblasting etc etc... I can even do web and graphic design if thats what you're needing, at an agreed price of course. If you have any jobs you don't mind paying to get done please let me know.

I'm on the North Shore (auckland) and would prefer that jobs offered are either on the North Shore or in West Auckland so that i don't end up spending heaps on gas!

Get him to send me some details of what he wants, and some links to sites similar to what he wants, then we can talk how much.

I've already got some thermals sorted as i was in Dunedin last month! Just gotta stock up on the other essentials, probably get a nice bill at kathmandu!

OK, the rules are that we don't tell all and spoil the fun, but these bits of advice are in the paperwork and heaps of people don't take any notice.

DO get your boots and wear them wet for days, force them to fit

Rub your feet and ankles every day in meths. It toughens the skin otherwise you WILL get blisters ... and no they don't let you off going out with bleeding feet.

Fitness ... push now and push hard, then push harder

Bit far away to offer work, but I like your attitude dude. Keep at it, and good luck.

You'll find it tough, they don't care how fit you are, that's not what it's about. They'll push you hard enough to hurt and then you start to learn, but on the way home you'll believe it's the best thing you've ever done.

Only advice I can give is to make sure you have good boots and they're broken in before you go. If you're less than a proficient swimmer try to get some pointers and practice in too.

If you need overnight accomodation in Welly on the way there or back PM me.

Good luck, dude!
One of my sons did Outward Bound years ago, he was fully funded by Rotary, lucky bugger.
Mstrs also did it about 100 yrs ago.:dodge:
I'm a bit far away to offer jobs etc, but if you find yourself a bit short I'm sure some of us HB guys could dip into our pockets to help make up the difference.
It can be a life changing experience...put 110% in and you will reap massive rewards!

Fancy building me a web service in PHP to handle RSA signature generation for a software licence registration system?

Can you code it up by, um... yesterday?

Any help would be absolutely awesome, i approached the local lions club when i did Spirit of Adventure and they gave me the deposit then, still have to try rotary, lions and of course the gaming commission too. I will be putting a notice in the local community publication to see if i can get some work in the neighborhood.

I've put away my $120 from this week to get me started, hopefully i'll get some more work coming through sooner rather than later, I have had an offer to earn some coin from littleman (cheers dude), can y'all send him some green bling for me! Got some things for sale on trademe which will help boost the bank account a bit, but at this stage all i can say is every little bit helps!

I would just like to extend my thanks to littleman, mystery and earthbound misfit - they've all lined me up with ways to earn some money so i can get this to happen... If you have anything you know of i'm always looking for ways to help raise the money.

I had Gareth around yesterday shovelling wet clay around in the rain. Soul destroying work but it had to get done.

He was punctual, worked hard and didn't complain.

I would recommend him highly if people need some work done.

Good luck with the savings mate.
