Been looking at 250 bikes for a friend and see that the GPX has now come down to $6000 retail. Makes it cheaper than what some on Trademe are selling second hand.

I would have bought one had they been that price when I was looking a year ago. Although I don't think it would have been so good on the kiwi road a few weeks ago or any of the Awakino trips I have done. Mind you, thats what the guy said about the GN when I told him I was going to use it on gravel roads. :nono:

Trew a leg over one at Spectrum when I was there the other day and the guy said the price was going down. Not for me but with how long they've been around they should be a reliable ride eh. Would be carefull tho seeing how soft Delusionz front end is, if it bottoms out it'll be plow time!

$5995 is the figure but that's the retail price  dealerships have a margin to work with that could see deals done for a fair bit less.
And there's two colour schemes Black with the red flames or Red with silver

17 years, 80,000+ on mine and still going strong, yeah, I'd say they're pretty reliable. :)

If you're a bit topheavy you might wanna fix the rear suspension but for a moderately sized person they're a great, pretty much an unbreakable bike with a good sized tank and a nice commuter seating position.

delusionz rides like a pansy so don't take his word on anything :sunny:

Gutted. I want $1000 back!!!!!! GRR.

Re the front fork dive: Still haven't fixed it, just making do with what I've got. It hasn't shown any reason to slow down yet.

My bike feels that less special now :( -- Everyones gonna have an 07 model now :(

Zeocen: You'll be seeing my tail light tomorrow buddy :P

Colour schemes: I've also seen banana yellow & grape purple GPX

No fair! damn thats annoying.
I guess that means mine is over insured now and I'd only get $6000 less the assesors BS depreciation, less my excess if I was at fault in a write-off accident?

Not picking dude but I made a GN out of bits that had dive, not as bad as yours and it makes you realise how much your suspension does for traction! Riding was fine (maybe a bit soggy feeling) but I had locked the front a number of times. The worst being for over 6m lanesplitting. You don't need much else thrown into the mix to make that fatal. As soon as there's no travel left the parties on!:bye:

Sat on a new one at Spectrum the other day while I was talking to one of the guys there and it had a nice firm front. It's your bike, do what you want but it's lots more fun knowing that when the shit hits the fan your less likely to get thrown.

The yellow/purple is pretty nasty.

I like the red gpx, not to keen on the yellow. I can't stand the tribal flames though.
In the latest Motorcycle Trader mag I saw a 2007 gpx with the triangle green flag with "kawasaki" inside it on the side of the bike, I thought that looked pretty awesome. Gave it a bit of a cultural flare (I love my kwaka green hehe) rather than generic trible flames.

I called Spectrum today to confirm the price drop so I could consider what to do regarding my insurance. From the sounds of it this isn't a permenant drop, more like a marketing ploy over the winter months - when the 250cc sales generally drop off and the price will almost certainly go back up come summertime.

So anyone who wants a cheap commuter and has some cash can buy one and sell it for the same price in 6 months?

Doubt it would work so well in practice tho.

local car mag did a recent test on this bike and obtained a 0-100kph time of 6.8 secs - meaning you'll easily out accelerate most cages. Looks like really good value compared to the Suzuki GSX250.

Should be quicker than 6.8, Wiki says 5.75. There isn't a whole lot of cars I can't smoke. I'll test it one day, I'm pretty sure it's quicker than that.

I also saw a Honda 250 for a two grand less than original price. Was in one of those free auto trader type mags. Made it $4995, brand new. Was the CBF or something, not the VTR or Hornet.

Do these bikes have progressive springs? Some older Kwakas were known to dive under heavy braking, a problem easily fixed by installing progressive springs.

Delusionz one goes down like a hooker before dole day! The one I sat on at Spectrum was very firm tho so matbe they are being assembled differently by different shops? or some places are aware they are a bit soft and sorting that before they send them out.

Well I can finally post here now (club 250) as I have jus got me a set of wheels too....a 1989GPX....reading the comments here I feel that I may have made a good move...though sporty bikes have never really been my thing...

GPX doesn't have to be sporty if you don't want it to be, the seating position is very commuter friendly, you can sit completely upright if you feel like it!
The old ones are just as good as the new ones, mine isn't missing a beat right now!

delusionz
6th September 2007, 02:29
if you do want to be sporty on the gpx however, you can sit your arse right under that corner that separates the rider and the pillion seats so that it changes your angle to make you crouch forward heaps but u gotta hold on tight because u will slide back if u pin the throttle.

Well after much research, thought and debate I purchased a brand new gpx250R today (2 days after getting my full license) :shifty:. Couldn't help myself, wanted to bring the 80s back and to be able to do it for so little money . Anyway my Verseys and the gravel will have to wait until March next year when I get the 650 twin :woohoo:, my bro gets his learners (and the gpx) and I get full time employment :shit:. Like Linuxrunner when I first looked at bikes a year ago I never thought about a sports type bike but here I am buying another 250 a year on.

GPX is such an upgrade on the GN. Less noise and wind, way more comfort over the bumps and passing power :niceone:. Will make a great commuter, after I've run it in of course. Loving it already :scooter:.
