I intend to rent a DVD of it one of these days. Read Albert Pierrepoint's biography a few weeks ago. He came across as a humble man who did his best to carry out executions with maximum speed and minimum fuss.

His belief was that he could have no valid views on the guilt or innocence of the prisoner - that was up to the justice system and not for him to second guess. Instead he treated the condemned with dignity and humanity.

Fascinating book and I have to say it left me feeling rather chilled at the process. Pierrepoint gave evidence to a Royal Commission that the time for completion of a hanging was from 8 - 20 seconds. That is from cell door to straight rope..........
