Yay, probably the most exciting and enjoyable tasks of getting your bike running

With the help of Affman, we managed to get my mighty ZXR roaring, momentarily. Cleaned the plugs etc etc and she was running alrite. Problem is when we opened her out to about 7000revs its started spitting large amounts of fuel out the top of the carbs.
Analysis:
1.) Running far too lean
2.) Seals could be gone

Is anyone able to offer advice or possibly some help so that i can get it going without burning through more spark plugs???

Just so you know:
Its been sitting without use for anywhere between 6 and 12 months and im running it on 96 (if that helps at all)

Could you tell exactly where the fuel was coming out.

It seems strange that it would come out the top. Was it coming out one of teh breather tubes or out the overflow on the bowls?

Or do you mean spitting mixture back out the throats?? If so then check your valve clearances or do a compression test to make sure your valves are closing properly.

If the bike has been sitting around then strip/cleaning the carbs would be a good idea - really the first thing that needs to be done if you want to sort your carbs properly.

i had the air box off and the fuel mixure was coming out of the tops of the carbs. im thinking i mite take the carbs off and clean give them a clean. Affman suggested I also dismantle and rebuild the brakes and rear shock.

well for the brakes i'd just make sure none of the clipers were sticking due to it sitting around a while. As for the rear suspension a rebuils might be the answer but see what's it's like when the bike is running it may be cheaper to buy a second hand shock off trademe and replace.
