I've got a CDI unit from an old Suzuki that I would like to have repaired - rather than buy a new one.
Has anyone had this done and can help me with a service agent?
Or a supplier for an after market new one

Hi
What model bike etc are we talking about Tltony?
The CDI's that give trouble are often availible aftermarket.
Sometimes you may find another model bike that you can use the CDI from.
There are a few crowds around that can have a look for you.
I thought the high number of chains, sprockets and tyres that TL must chew
through would keep you too busy for tinkering with classics:yes:

If a replacement is readily available off TM or elsewhere. Hardly worth looking for a repairer. Unless you are repairing it yourself.
Known fault on my previous Yamaha XJ900. The solder joints on the internal circuit board go dry jointed. Although difficult to get into, a relatively easy fix.
But if it had been more complex it would have been rubbish-bin material for sure. Too many custom components and no data or diagrams to bother getting too serious.

Thanks for the prompt reply bimotabob.
The bike with the problem is a 1983 Suzuki GS650 in line 4 cylinder.
New price for the CDI unit is around $700:shit: so figured there must be an aftermarket unit available. But have been unable to locate a source.
Must be looking in the wrong place.
I love my TL and expendable items are just part of the deal.
However the GS just sort of came along (part of a dare after a group of us got together) and so I had to save it from the wreckers cos it's in such good nick.

Thanks Warren. I agree with the suggestion of dry solder joints but have never been able to get the components out out the resin without wrecking them. If I could I would certainly have a go at the repair

It doesn't mention the 650 but every other GS is there.

Good spotting Dhunt. Those were the guys I was going to call up if my own repairs had failed.
I'll post up all the details so it's possible to search and find at some later time.
