Backing up my bike in my garage took to new heights this morning as I carelessly smashed my top box into my wall, dislodging the 2 front bolts on the mount. :shit:

I didn't think much of it until I got to unian d realised the top box was sitting on my pillion seat. Sure glad that I didn't lose it or have all my sh*it splattered all over the road.

Had a look, the 2 front bolts were ok, but the plastic bits inside the plastic mounting plate that holds the bolts in place with the rack were destroyed.

I think I should be able to fix it but I need the plastic washers that holds mounting bolts together with the mounting plate and rack.

I thought I'd let you guys know first, I'll post a picture when I get home so you can all get a better idea.

Well here's the pictures, it'd probably will make more sense if you have a GIVI top box and know a few things about mounts.

In the first picture it shows the top box resting on my pillion seat as the front two bolts on the mounting plate has been ripped out and the plastic that is inside the mounting plate which holds the bolts has been destroyed.

The second pic shows the mounting plate itselt

The third shows what underneath the mounting plate and looking at the bolt hole

The fourth pic starting from top shows - the mounting plate, the bolt, the piece of destroyed plastic which holds the bolt intact with the mounting plate and finally, the thick black metal is the rack itself.

Of course, I could just stick washers inside the mounting plate to act as a locking mechanism to hold the bolts together with the rack and the mounting plate.

Suggestions?

Short term, you could use a soldering iron and melt the plastic back together... but it would not be as strong.

Would a large metal washer above and below fit and be strong enough?

Deary me! I dont have a top box or pack rack on my bike.....I just use my pack rack bag and cargo bungee net to hold it down on the pillion seat.

I know its frustrating but I had to giggle at this one! Good luck in fixing it.

My givi box is a little different as for the gpx it has side rails and the mounting rack slides into that and is fastened by 2 bolts with nuts that lock it in place. some thief or prankster stole 1 of the bolts. damn it, theres no way it could have rattled out.

Nutech carbon fibre filler, from Repco or such like. Drill heaps of little holes in the surrounding area, to maximise where it can purchase on.

Thanks Imdying.

I just found out I am better off just buying a new mounting plate for $30.00 at Colemans Suzuki.

Yep, sometimes your time is worth more than what it would take to fix the part

Ha!

Rang coleman up and asked if the mounting plate was ready to pick up and they tell me they ordered the wrong part. It's also going to cost more than 30bucks.

Rang Motomail on College Hill yesterday and they knew exactly what I was talking about and it's gonna be somewhere between $50 -$70 dollars.

Great...
