MackTheKnife Urgent Appeal
About a fantasic friend of mine, who needs help: MackTheKnife
A man generous with his time and efforts. He’s always there for us when we need it and has been for years… he now needs our help. His big brother passed away on the weekend of the 4th of August. Steve's funeral was Friday 10th and, to be blunt, finances are an issue.
We have really got this ball rolling, and when we hit $5,000 you lot get to have my scalp - well you get to see it anyway.
Cash donations see below for bank details. $5 or $500... I'm grateful for anything available.
Food donations - Contact Blondini if you can assist with preparation, storage or delivery of food.
General assistance - Contact me if you can help with general work around the house (lawns, gutters etc)
I know this is a testing time for us (KB) at the mo with fund raisers, so we need to dig deep, but there is a good family under a lot of stress right now having lost a father, brother, and son. Finding cash isn’t another load they need right now – yet they must. We need more to cover the mortgage for 3 weeks, and we need more to put food on the table and fuel in the car. Please help where you can.

SixPackBack's wife (Jackie) had a party - one of us (me) got a little over the limit.
Who drove me from Whangaparoa home? Mack!
Who missed a chopper bike show the following day to come with me and pick the car up? Mack!
at least 4 hours of his personal time invested in my sorry arse... that time.
===
RF battery died... who loaned me his bike to get around on? Mack.
Who picked my sorry arse up from work to get TO that bike? Mack.
Another 2 hours invested in my sorry arse.
I KNOW there are a lot of stories out there... c'mon spill. This is a top top man who needs help. A lot or a little, let's do what we can.

I haven't known Mack long enough to have a good story, but I know that he is a top bloke, with a heart of gold...
As much as noone deserves grief, he least of all should go through it.
I can't afford much but I will help as much as I can.

Contact ACC see if he is eligible for help from them. I know they stump up something toward funeral costs sometimes.
Insurance company? Usually there is a small immediate payout to cover funeral expenses when claiming in Life Cover.
Mack organised the Auckland contributions for Kerry at TSS after his house burnt down.

MDU are you able to check out the insurance issue discreetly at all? - they pay out for funerals asap and may help relieve some pressure on the family in that regard.
PM sent and funds transferred. Let us know if there are practical stuff needing done too.

Worth checking out, but they normally only stump up when the death is by accident. They can go to Work and Income, there is normally assistance through them.

The guy is an icon, although he does drive a ford ;)
I've only known him through the Wednesday night mentor rides, he gives his time, knowledge, advice, guidance to everyone, he makes a point of knowing everyone by name and treating you as if you were the only one there.
A classic example, last Wednesday I accidentally 'placed' my bike on the curb while helping set up an advanced cone course, Mac was more worried about me and the bike than I was, he helped get me back up on the horse so to speak, dusted me off and off I went - still couldn't get round that tight course but I blame my longer wheel base muhaha.

Bugger it - this is one of the many times when I wish I'd just won Lotto. Unfortunately being in Brisbane means hefty bank fees for any transfers. I'll be able to make a contribution next week, however, when I'm in NZ.
When my Mum died the house was filled with flowers, easily a coupla grand worth. Dad and I were touched, but to put it bluntly, we both wished it was socially commonplace to give money towards funeral costs instead.
Best wishes to all for the funeral, I hope there will be a motorcycle guard of honour if that's requested. Always a moving sight.

Let me share the voice of experience
Prepare meals for me like spagetti bolognaise or nachos something simple shepards pie etc..
All the usual daily chores will be a nightmare for a while so help with washing ironing cleaning. Lawns and gardens...
She will also need time to grieve on her own sometimes ... but not too much space.Like I said grocery shopping was a nightmare...
Also the bills to be paid and kids taken to school or kindy..Animals to be cleaned..
Anything that she would normally do will be a mission for a long while I know people grieve differently I learnt it was important to talk about him because a lot of people are too scared to mention his name in case I got upset but it upset me more when they did not mention him..
I will try to think of anything I can,I sure hope she has good friends she will need them and the kids are a blessing it will give her focus to carry on.
Each day will feel like a lifetime for her,It does get better but unfortunately the hurt of them not there stays forever we just learn to adjust...<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Here are some of my Mack stories (the more I think about it the more I remember!) So, in the pattern of MDU here are just a few of them:
===
The first time I went on a Thursday Night Ride (no bike at that stage, so I just drove to the pub) who was the first Kiwibiker to greet me outside the pub with a big hug? MACK!
===
When I was just starting out and didn't have any good gear, who came shopping with me, gave me excellent advice and helped me carry all the parcels? MACK!
===
Who did I call when I found my little Volty on TradeMe and needed an experienced opinion and a test-rider? MACK! (He and Kim came right over when I called them at very short notice, both gave fantastic advice and Mack even advised me on negotiating the price)
===
Who picked me up and dusted me off the first time I fell off my Volty in a car park? MACK OF COURSE!
===
Who did I call when I got hit from behind by a crazy blonde in a BMW and I was sitting on the side of the road all bruised? MACK!
He also
- Helped me with insurance
- Helped me find spare parts
- Showed me how to repair my own bike (he's an EXTREMELY patient man)
- Panelbashed my rear guard into shape
- Fixed my sore back!!
Mack is the best mentor ever. :love: Volty and I owe him a great debt of gratitude.

When the chips are down you need all the help you can get. I have been in such situations and had people help me out more than I could ever repay.
I have only met Mack once but he and Big Dog taught me more about riding than anyone ever has. The fact that they (as well as others) put a significant amount of time, regularly, into helping out complete strangers is pretty special in my book... and a damn nice bloke with it.

I cannot believe the wonderful folk on KB, I am a deeply humbled man. I have never tried to make out I am anything special and I truly enjoy helping others, it makes me feel useful. Steve was the same.
He was well known in Medieval fighting arts groups around the country, he and I were founding members of the first group in NZ to teach the western fighting styles, and many (perhaps most) of those that followed benefited from his experience and knowledge. He was known as a tremendously skilled fighter, and a patient trainer who always managed to have time for anyone who asked for it.
He was also one of the best riders I have ever known, and had a reputation in the early years as a bit of a hell-raiser. One of the stories I heard yesterday from a friend I haven't seen for a while was about a 'class' he gave on how to avoid capture by the police in the central city while riding.:yes::shit:
The greatest sadness for me is not having his knowledge and wisdom around to call on anymore, he was a wonderful source of info on most things and could always be counted on to make you smile.
I don't know what to say but thank you, all of you, for the generosity you have shown for his family, I will ensure they never forget their amazing Dad.

It may hurt to se Mack shead a tear Nige but for me it is also an honour when a friend shares that emotion too.
I helped a mate years ago in the UK, he stayed with me for free whilst he got his shut together, anyway his exgirlfriend had called him saying she had taken an overdose and he just curled up in the corner and cried......

Good on ya everyone.... Online groups like KB have replaced a lot of the local 'club' scene and it's no bad thing. In my humble opinion, and it's JUST an opinion, a proper motorcyclist should always....
Try and help a brother in tough times... It might be you next!
Make sure everyone gets home on a group ride... Again - next time it might be your turn!
In bad conditions - make sure everyone is OK (don't piss off into the distance 'cos your gear is keeping YOU dry that day)..
Try NOT to be a liability to the group every time (maintain yer bike and yer gear)
Never met you but it seems Mack meets all the above - I consider myself a motorcylist and thus I'm glad to help, sorry it's not more..... Come on folks - bikers have always been generous souls... earn ya karma point here!

KB has the real as well as online component. I've never met you (Paul) or a great deal of others... but I cross paths with the Auckland crowd semi regular because (and here's the thing...). Motorcycling is something you get out and DO... regularly
Various fan clubs, bebo or whatever the hell etc etc etc... all mostly talk, but very rarely do. The very essence of being a motorcyclist is something you DO.
Yeah 'tis good

LOL I was thinking about that this morning. It's like a KB Insurance Policy. People get support from it as periodically required, and that support comes from the contributions of the others.
It's not magic, but it's bloody cool to know a safety net of sorts is there... and no margins being taken by corporate fat cats or the IRD...!

Theres a well known proverb about that - the amount given is alway proportional to the situation of the giver and in reality - it does not matter... What matters is you did what you could! Thats what gets you respect.... Lets be honest - there are people out there that spend $5K filling their boat with gas and this would be chump change.... BUT - $5 from someone that only has $10 is equally worthy than $5000 from someone that has billions...
Yeah yeah - we should be prepared, we should have this that and the other thing but in the real world shit happens, condoms burst, tyres go flat, gravel appears on bends and the unexpected catches you out in a moment of weakness... I've screwed up PLENTY and people have helped me in the past and I was forever thankful and surely none of us is so important we cant stop to give a brother a hand? Well done Jude and everyone else.... Crikey - keep this up and I'll start wearing my KB tee shirt again...

Well I've met the knife a few times now.
First time I was out collecting tyres from Nicko to deliver to MSTRS. on the way back I was to take some clothes and cash to Mack to send to Kerry in Wellington after his house fire. My car made it to Ponsonby and the battery gave up..completely.
Mack arrived and gave us a lift to buy a new battery.
He also gave me a loan of a DVD on group riding which came in handy when trying to organise the 250 runs with Maverick.
And he was present as chief tyre kicker when Canarlee came and bought his bright yellow budgie..wi'out brakes.
Top bloke.

HAIR FOR SALE - $2,500 more gets it... COME AND GET IT
Or more precisely... you guys need to know
There is a good woman with 2 children in need.
1 child is 7 months old, the other is 2 years 10 months
She has no income/job (other than being a full time Mum to two kids).
She is facing a bureaucratic nightmare to get anything out of the State by way of a benefit
She may be facing 3 or more weeks without income, at a time of duress, and with two children also stressed...$5,000 buys my bald head, but in real terms it makes a difference... a big difference.
C'mon guys... pass on the love. It's out there - I know it. Help me find a home for it.

Mate she has no income but fulltime mum is one hell of a job,she deserves a medal.
As an aside,if she goes to winz,maybe put the funds raised into another bank account so it doesn't show up in her account,that way when she needs finances for groceries,mortgage she can access it,even if it means someone else has control of funds.That way when winz check bank accounts it won't be visible to them,if she was to have say $2500 in bank the bastards might say you can have the benefit when your less financial,come on people all donations accepted.

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=55176 has more information about our little whundraiser ride.
Due to the poor weather there was "limited attendance" which is a shame because it meant there are very few people on the ride, ergo few in the draw.
After an informal vote / poll it was decided to extend the deadline for the draw.
Should you wish to enter the draw for the trackday you have until Sunday 19/08/07 at 18:00 to get me your envelope.
On the plus side there were some brave souls who turned out in spite of foul weather and had a grand time.
The count?
4 x 250's
2 x pillions
2 x 251+cc bikes
1 x sweep car
0 x accidents
0 x tickets (3 patrol cars and 2 speed camera vans)
0 x quitters
GO THE 250's, some dedicated bikers and some generous souls in this group. :first: :first: :first: :first: :first: :first: :first: :first: :first: :first:

Anyway, I'll be off to see the big guy this avo...
I was pondering what to bring him: grapes, Big Mack, beer, sweets...The only genius idea was a companion but somehow, i don't think that bringing him a blow up doll will do much good:buggerd:

My day got worse...I defrosted meat and it somehow ended up overcooked in the microwave...it turned to a jerky like form...so threw some chops into the oven, headed over to the neighbours, and forgot about them.
So my second attempt at dinner was a charcoal effort.
I gave up after that, what a day!
