Seems I am a bit of a noob and failed to notice calendar events do not have a thread attached to them so here it is:
Event location: Auckland - North Shore
We are all aware of recent trails and tribulations impacting Mack The Knife and his family.

For those that wish to participate there will be a rain or shine ride to Whangarei.

Where: BP Dairy Flat (Northern Motorway Autobahn), lots of parking and good coffee.
Day: Sunday 12/08/07
When : Muster 9am, 9:30 Riders Briefs, 10am departure.
Pace: Legal group ride - Team work the focus.
Why: Raise money for the family of Mack the Knifes brother.
How: By envelope.
Who: Everybody - 250cc in particular very welcome given Macks' long
standing generosity in giving his time freely to anyone willing to listen and learn.

Can someone from Wellsford and Whangarei recommend places to park a lot of bikes and or feed and water the riders / meet riders from your area.

Donations can either be by way of spot prizes (let us know what they are on here in advance) or by envelope.

To join the ride bring a sealed envelope with what you can spare in it, no one needs to know how much or how little it is, just what you can spare.
On the envelope write your cellphone number, this will be your ticket number at the drawing.

Many times we do not get to thank these selfless types while they are still alive.


Important notes:
If you want to be involved but have no bike we could use a sweep vehicle.

Depending on numbers: Escorts that know the way should the group be seperated.

Please be on time we want to leave at 10 on the button. This means you are there fueled up and ready to leave at 10.

Wellsford Caltex - Food and fuel.
Waipu Pizza Barn - World Famous in Northland. Good food, beverages and plenty of parking. Fuel near-by.Good Roads:

Mangawhai Rd - Mangawhai Heads Rd to Waipu.
Paparoa Oakleigh Rd.Points ta watch out for:

SH16 - Heavily policed now.
SH1 Ruakaka/Waipu Straights - always cop heavy.If ya planning ta go further North let me know. I probably will not be joining ya as I had planned to ride ta Paihia that day via Russell Rd (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1164940&postcount=235) and need ta be back in Whangarei by 4:30pm (see Northland - Whangarei Wednesday night ride Thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1166448&posted=1#post1166448)), but could have my arm twisted (would have to be a good twist as I had promised Bluebabe a trip ta Paihia Sunday) if ya don't have a rider familiar with Norf Roads with ya.

great ride for the 6 bikes + 8 bikers who went on them

great work from pointman (big dog) and TEC for Tail End CAGE (lil sel) for a fun and safe ride. the weather had its moments (rain, wind, both at the same time, then sun, the repeat the whole thing all over again) but it turned pretty nice in the afternoon

Due to the poor weather there was "limited attendance". Which is a shame because it meant there are very few people on the ride, ergo few in the draw.
After an informal vote / poll it was decided to extend the deadline for the draw.
Should you wish to enter the draw for the trackday you have until Sunday 19/08/07 at 18:00 to get me your envelope.

On the plus side there were some brave souls who turned out in spite of foul weather and had a grand time.

0 x tickets (3 patrol cars and 2 speed camera vans)

Once again we had a ride where there were smiles at every stop.

It almost seems as though we went up to Whangarei and dragged the good weather back with us kicking and screaming.

We departed 15 mins late (typical bikers, late for everything).
Had a cruisey and from my P.O.V uneventful ride to Wellsford via SH1, where we were just in time to shelter from the worst of the hail.
From there it got a little more interesting as we added a few cars, horizontal rain, high winds and lots of potholes.
At points it must have looked like we were all riding on a road that was pasted to the side of the cliff as we all leaned in to the wind with our windward knees sticking out to reduce the effect of the wind.
All of this made more amusing by the synchronised boot pointing at the potholes from our little formation.
After a thorough workout of the shoulders (constantly either a headwind or a crosswind from the left) we eased in to Whangarei looking wet and bedraggled but with 9 smiles.
We eventually found an eatery that sold "Auckland" coffees. Even if they do only come in one size...... small.
Quick photo op. to prove we made it (photos to follow when our self appointed photographer gets around to it).
By now it was blue skies in Whangarei.
This was not to last but was a sign of things to come.
A brief but heavy downpour (strangely this was warm?) later we stopped to be posers again at the Bryderwyn lookout.
Comfort stop in Wellsford followed by a more energetic (though still legal :innocent:) pace was set down through SH16.
The group seperated into 2 groups shortly after dissapointing MR "I have a laser but can't ticket any of you"

The faster group while not setting any silly speeds did not slow down for the corners, and in most cases slowed down for the straights so we could enjoy the full pleasures offered by this road without giving Aunty Helen another payrise.....:Punk::Punk::first::Punk::Punk:

Once in Helensville ( yes I see the irony ) we sat in the sun that we had stolen from Whangarei in the garden bar and had a good chin wag.

All in all a great day and well worth the horrific weather on the way up.:Punk:

The site of the little fire ball cuddled up to the back of the big dog (sure you love hi vis orange now) made for an amusing ride both there and back....sheltered from all the elements (she did get a wet spot form big dog :Oops: ).
Watching the group in the wind made for some real entertainment but all were safe and smiles at the end.:rockon:

I swept in LilSel as the rain/weather kinda put me off, I must admit tho that for about 80% of the time I was thinking 'I should be ok my bike', the other 20% being when it was chucking it down lol!...

It may be worth next time not using the CD at all and just doing everything on FXR. I know its your only :scooter: but if you get use to doing that sort of things on it you wont need to transfer the learnings :yes::shutup:
