View Full Version : Speed kills?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but it seems one of a our guardians of Laura N'order booked a hearse for speeding in Te Anau. Her stopping of the hearse resulted in a three car nose to tail among the mourners cars.
Was she concerned for the welfare of the corpse? Or did she think she had the driver dead to rights?
Is this the ultimate in fanatical stupidity by some of the thick blue line, or is there an Officer trying to top it as we speak?

So a hearse was speeding and the mourners were following at an unsafe distance ... you point is?

Rather than speeding, it was for driving too slow. The hearse was leading the funeral procession, with its lights on dip, at 70 kmh. Our girl in blue thought that the hearse was holding up traffic due to the large number of vehicles behind also travelling at 70 kmh with lights on dip.

I guess no-one ever taught her about respect.

The hearse's lights were on, as were the lights of the 80 to 100 cars behind him.

The policewoman, parked on the opposite side of the road, had gestured at him to pull over, the funeral director said.

Three cars further back in the cortege crashed when it was brought to a halt.

Waipahi man Gerard Vallely, who was in the middle of the pile-up, estimated his speed at between 30km/h and 40km/h.

Ok ... now I'm with you. I'm now adding my Outrage & Indignation to the thread. I guess if it's now public knowledge, the cop will be getting hell from her bosses. The Police are not kind to their own who screw up!

Outrage, Indignation and eventually laughter.
It would make a good one of those urban (Te Anau!) myths if it weren't true.
Cheers -

I think she's been given a bit of a 'rark-up.' Still dumb mind you there has been some concern of late about the quality of the police recruits of late or was she down on her quatas??

My thoughts too (amongst others).
What would have happened if the hearse had to stop in a real hurry in an emergency? How many nose-to-tails would THAT have caused.

Can't wait to hear the backlash through the grape-vine in the next few days though.

Jeepers, if only old people wearing hats would drive a hearse. Then we might have a better chance to get these slow pokes ticketed and off the road!

A friend of mine was about 6 back from the hearse and was absolutely flabbergasted at the whole affair. He could see no reason for the entourage to be stopped, other than the fact that the same hearse was stopped for speeding a few days earlier while transporting the same "client" from Invercargill to Te Anau.
Must be the first person ever stopped twice by HWP after they've died!

Thats so incredibly disgusting ... outrage indignation etc .... who taught that bloody cop about funerals ... about respect ... about not being a bloody indiot! ... For crying out loud that is one of the absolute dumbest acts I have heard of in ages ... can someone send her a seed and tell her to grow a brain!
